The ruler of Sky Island, Enel, was revered as a god, akin to a king in the Blue Sea. With the power of the Goro Goro no Mi (Thunder Fruit) and his enhanced Kenbunshoku Haki, which he dubbed the "Mantra," Enel could eavesdrop on all of Sky Island by connecting his ability to the island's electromagnetic waves.
He could hear every voice, every whisper—from the entire Sky Island.
The power to command thunder itself, paired with the ability to hear others' thoughts, made him a terrifying god-like presence on the island.
Vane and his crew had just crossed the Sea of Clouds, passing through the Heaven's Gate to arrive at Sky Island. Their destination: Angel Island.
"People from the Blue Sea?" Enel stirred on his golden throne within the so-called Kingdom of God. He had sensed them through his Mantra the moment they entered.
"How interesting… No one from below has come here in ages," he muttered lazily. "Let me take a nap first. I'll play with them later... It's been so boring lately."
Enel leaned back and quickly drifted into sleep, unaware of what was coming.
To him, the world below Sky Island—the Blue Sea—was filled with nothing but insignificant ants. Why should a god concern himself with mortals?
Meanwhile, Vane's group was suddenly ambushed by several Sky Knights trying to destroy their ship. These defenders often intercepted pirate crews before they reached the island, and their flying tactics made them dangerous to most. But to Vane, they were no threat at all.
He calmly drew his sword—his flowing blade like fire—and with a single slash, scattered the attackers. The white clouds were momentarily dyed with color from the strike.
Later that afternoon, the group docked in the White-White Sea and entered Angel Island, perched 10,000 meters above the sea. Vane led them into the commercial district.
"Kalifa, get a basket of fruit. Any kind will do," he instructed.
"Do you want to eat, sir?" she asked.
"Why eat when you can plunder Devil Fruits?" Vane replied casually.
"Oh wow…" Kalifa looked around in awe. "With all these people having wings, if I didn't know better, I'd think they really were angels."
The busy commercial street was filled with locals, each with small white wings on their backs—like true angels.
"They're just like us," Vane said flatly. "Same arms and legs. There's nothing divine about them."
After gathering supplies, the group set out toward a forbidden part of Sky Island—a sacred domain known as the Upper Yard, where "gods" resided.
When they arrived, Enel's four Heavenly Priests appeared, tasked with guarding the area and denying entry to outsiders. But against Vane, they were like ants facing a tsunami.
Vane effortlessly dispatched the two strongest priests. He left the remaining two to Kalifa—as a test. There would be more in the future.
Kalifa didn't disappoint. After a fierce battle, she defeated and killed both opponents. An hour passed. The priests proved troublesome, using dials and flying tactics. Kalifa was pushed to her limits, suffering a dislocated right arm. But with grit, she slammed it back into place, hiding her pain from Vane.
"My priests… dead? Impossible!" Enel finally stirred, outraged. His four trusted warriors—undefeated in Sky Island combat—had been killed by "ants" from the Blue Sea? The source of thɪs content is NovᴇlFir(e).nᴇt
"Trash! All of them! Do they think they can overthrow a god? Impossible!" he screamed. "I am the god who rules everything!"
Over the years, many had tried to rebel against Enel. None succeeded. If a priest fell, he simply replaced them.
"Yahaha! Come on then! Show me your strength!" he roared mockingly.
"What are you laughing at?" came Vane's voice.
Vane and the others had entered his throne room. Enel stared down from above, stunned by their audacity.
"They actually made it here..."
His anger boiled over. The look in Vane's eyes—it wasn't fear. It was disdain.
Gripping his golden scepter, Enel unleashed a surge of blue lightning.
"Let me show you the might of a god!"
Kalifa gasped. Thunder crackled in the distance.
"He's the one with the Thunder Fruit…"
But Vane didn't wait for Enel to finish his show. What might have been overwhelming to Kalifa was nothing to Vane, whose physical prowess and Haki far exceeded the norm.
He vanished in an instant, reappearing in front of Enel before the so-called god could react.
"Your flaw is your arrogance. But I suppose that's to be expected from a frog in a well like you, born and raised on this tiny island."
Vane's fists, clad in Armament Haki, slammed into Enel's face.
Before his feet could touch the ground, Enel's upper body snapped back violently from the punch.
"Why… is he so fast?!"
Enel's face caved in. His golden throne shattered behind him as he was launched backward—crashing through the palace walls and out of his divine sanctuary.
