Will came to a halt beside a thick, ancient tree. Gently, he placed the boat down beside it with meticulous care. His gaze fell upon the trunk, where three letters were carved: "Ast." Below the tree lay a fresh grave.

Will rested his forearms on his knees, the liquor bottle still gripped in his hand. He spoke softly, as if his words could somehow reach the depths of the grave, whether the one buried there could hear him or not.
When he finished speaking, his eyes flickered with memories. He took another deep drink.
