Chapter 1: Prologue: Game Over
2049 – The Final Hour
Rai Kurozawa could taste blood. Not from his in-game avatar — but real, warm blood dripping down his lips inside the VR pod.
The world of Eidolon Realms
burned around him. Cities crumbled. NPCs screamed. Guild banners fell one by one as shadows devoured the skies.
Above, six colossal figures loomed — gods long thought to be fictional lore and just a small part of the game. Not too long ago, humans used to enjoy seeing them. Now, but now the one laughing were the gods.
"You were too late, mortal," one sneered, its thousand eyes blinking in unison. "You built our empire. You did everything and you couldn’t even understand how this happened."
"Can’t believe that it was so easy to get you humans to do our bidding, but you humans were too arrogant for your own good. Betrayed by your own, when you were alone trying to save them." Spoke another with a voice so chilly yet so warm.
Rai coughed, collapsing under the weight of betrayal. His trusted guild leader had stabbed him in the back — literally. That had resulted in his capture by these so called gods.
He glanced at the fading system prompt:
[ You have died. Respawn unavailable.]
[Soul Sync integrity 0.3%... ]
[ WARNING: Neurological Overload Imminent ]
So this was it.
After torture of about three weeks he was almost done for.
Death, both in game and out.
But even now the thoughts of revenge burnt in his heart. In the beginning when he was captured he wasn’t afraid at all. But what he feared was not torture but the thought that his own people might think of him as a betrayer.
As he cursed the gods to his last breath, slowly he started losing his consciousness.
His last thought was of her — Aelina, the goddess with sorrowful eyes, who had begged him to stop this world’s unraveling. The only goddess who helped him, a mortal. The one who gave him love in this accursed world.
As his last thoughts stopped, he suddenly started glowing. After a few minutes the glow finished.
And then, he vanished.
