The two exchanged glances and simultaneously smiled at each other.
She thought they would just sit down at this point.
Unexpectedly, Arnold approached, grabbed her arm without warning, and pulled her into his embrace. He gently wrapped his arms around her waist, and at that moment, she could smell the scent of cooking from him — not the smell of cigarette smoke, but the aroma of cooking oil mixed with food.
In her memory, Arnold never smoked, which she was quite grateful for. When facing her, she didn’t have to smell the cigarette smoke she despised, as she didn’t like men who smoked, regardless of the type of cigarette.
For a fleeting moment, she felt infatuated with this man who smelled of cooking oil.
Soon, her rationality took over.
At that moment, he released his embrace, and instead, wrapped his arm around her shoulder as they approached the dining table. His voice, low and husky, sounded in her ear, “I made only one dish today. Which flavor do you like the most?”
When she saw that all six dishes were tofu dishes, a warmth filled her heart. She couldn’t help but playfully smile and joke, “You don’t have to be this obvious about wanting to eat tofu.”
After saying this, she instantly fell silent.
This was not like her usual temperament or style.
“For you, my intentions have always been this clear,” Arnold replied, seemingly unfazed by the embarrassment on her face and instead, holding her even tighter.
Victoria didn’t respond, only silently gazing at the tofu feast on the table, all prepared to her liking.
No one but her little sister knew about her love for tofu dishes since she was particularly picky about its taste.
Yet, it seemed as though he could see right through her.
Understanding her appetite, her difficulties, and her preferences.
Suddenly, she grew somewhat fearful, worried that one day he would penetrate her heart, which she intended to protect fiercely. By then, would she marry or not?
