Muzanette eyes narrowed as she felt a strange sensation ripple through her body—a small, almost imperceptible shift within her that caught his attention.
For most demons, this might have gone unnoticed, but Muzanette Kibutsuji was different. She could feel every fragment of hemself that she'd implanted into her creations, every drop of her essence in the demons she controlled.
But now something was off.
"Impossible," she muttered, her voice cold and sharp. Somewhere, in one of her lesser demons, there had been a disturbance. She concentrated, probing the sensation further, until she pinpointed the source. It was one of the spider demons, Rui's mother.
Someone, or something, had not only managed to sever the connection she had with her but also altered the very essence of her being, changing it into something she didn't recognize. The cell shehad implanted within her to control her had been attacked—overpowered by a force greater than her own.
"How could this be?" she whispered, barely able to contain her anger and disbelief. "Someone has changed Rui's mother into... something else."
In all her years, Muzanette had never encountered such a situation. Her cells, once inside a demon, were bound to obey her will, infusing the demon's very core with her power and authority. They were her creations, her extensions, subject to her influence without question.
She knew every detail about his cells and could track them, manipulate them, and even punish his demons through those cells. But here, for the first time, she felt something she couldn't explain—a force that had disrupted her control over Rui's mother, and this felt like a threat to her power.
She clenched his fists, trying to recall everything he knew about Rui's mother. She was not powerful, not on her own. She was weak, fragile, and almost pathetic compared to other demons, but her fear of Rui and her punishments had kept her obedient. Muzanette usually wouldn't have bothered about her on a normal day, but now, this disturbance in her connection with her demanded her full attention.
If someone had this power to alter her creations, what else could they do? Were they capable of undermining her, of severing her control over other demons as well?
"No. I am the strongest," Muzanette reminded herself, her voice like steel. "There is no one more powerful than me."
But the fact remained. Rui's mother, a mere pawn in the ranks of his demon family, had somehow slipped from her grasp. She focused on the last thing she'd sensed from her before the change—the desperate fear, the trembling uncertainty as she faced her attackers. And then... nothing. It was as if a barrier had been put in place, shutting her out.
"Someone has done this. Someone wants to challenge me," Muzanette seethed, feeling her rage build. Whoever was responsible, she would not allow them to go unpunished. They would pay dearly for thinking they could take what was her. Her power was absolute, and She intended to show it to anyone foolish enough to challenge her.
A wicked smile crept across her face as she considered the possibilities. If there was a threat, she would deal with it as she always had—with swift and brutal precision. She would unleash every resource she had to find this intruder, to hunt down and obliterate whoever dared tamper with her creation.
Muzanette's mind raced, the gears turning as she formulated a plan. First, she needs to make Rui get all the information about what just happened to his supposed mother.
But Muzanette also knew she couldn't ignore the growing presence of the Demon Slayer Corps. They had been a nuisance for far too long, and their strength had been increasing.
If they were somehow involved in this—if one of them had developed a technique or weapon capable of severing her control—she would personally ensure that their organization was wiped from existence. She would find every one of their members and make them suffer for daring to oppose her.
"This ends now,"
With a wave of her hand, she summoned one of her underlings to deliver a message to Rui, one of the lower Moons. "Inform Rui that he is to locate any possible threat, which caused one of his family members to to betray me, no matter how insignificant it seems. Report back to me immediately if he discovers anything unusual." Her tone was calm, almost too calm, as she gave the order.
The demon messenger bowed deeply, sensing the deadly seriousness in Muzanette's words, and disappeared to carry out the order.
