Overlord: The Multiverse Chapter 262

"So this is Enmu’s dream, huh?" I said, surveying my surroundings. The familiar sight of Helheim stretched out before me—the cold, desolate landscape of the underworld where Nazarick was once situated in the game.

The jagged ice peaks glistened under a pale, ominous light, and the chilling wind carried with it the echo of silence, a silence I hadn’t heard in a long time.

I allowed myself a small smile. "Have to say, this is pretty realistic," I muttered. For a moment, I almost forgot this was a dream. It was impressive, especially considering Enmu’s relatively low rank among demons. Creating such a vivid replica of this place—my former domain—was no small feat.

That said, I wasn’t here because I’d fallen victim to his powers. Enmu’s dream trap was amateur-level magic compared to what I was capable of resisting. But my curiosity had gotten the better of me. I wanted to see what he would conjure to try and keep me in his little illusion. It was entertaining, in a way, like watching a child proudly show off a drawing to an adult.

"Yes, quite realistic indeed. Missing your old days?"

The sudden voice startled me, though it shouldn’t have. I turned to see her standing there—a familiar figure I knew all too well. "Death? What are you doing here?"

Death, or at least a portion of her essence, stood before me, draped in her usual attire that somehow managed to toe the line between elegance and seduction. Her silver hair shimmered in the dim glow of the frozen plains, her piercing gaze locked onto me with a mischievous glint.

"Didn’t you tell me you couldn’t manifest in the mortal world because you’d destroy it?" I asked, closing the distance between us.

"That’s true, dear," she replied, her smile sly. "But this isn’t the mortal world, now is it? This is a dream realm, so there’s no harm in me being here."

I chuckled, taking in her presence. "Convenient loophole."

Death tilted her head, her expression shifting to one of playful curiosity. "Having perverted thoughts already?"

I grinned, unapologetic. "Of course. With you standing here looking like that, how could I not?"

She laughed softly, her voice like a melody that made the icy surroundings feel a little warmer. "At least you’re honest."

"But seriously, why are you here?" I asked, folding my arms as I studied her.

She shrugged lightly, as though the answer were obvious. "I was bored. I saw an opportunity to visit, so I took it. Simple as that."

A smirk crossed my lips. "Then, my dear Death, would you do me the honor of joining me on a date?" I went down on one knee, extending a hand toward her in a mock display of chivalry.

Death’s eyes gleamed with amusement as she placed her hand in mine. "You’re artfully romantic today, aren’t you? Very well, my fine gentleman. Show me around this place you hold so dear."

With that, I rose and linked her arm with mine, leading her through the frosty expanse of Helheim. It felt oddly fitting to be exploring this place with her; after all, Helheim had always been a domain of death and decay.

"This place," I began as we walked, "is where we spent a lot of time during our early Yggdrasil days. It was one of the more unforgiving zones, but we loved it anyway. See that cliff over there?"

Death followed my gaze toward a towering ledge of jagged black rock.

"Peroroncino once declared it the perfect spot to build his NPC harem’s mansion," I said with a laugh. "He spent hours up there planning out every little detail—only to have Ulbert show up and wipe out his NPCs in the name of ’testing a new spell.’ Poor Pero sulked for a week."

Death chuckled softly, her smile widening. "I remember. He tried to appeal to you to stop Ulbert, didn’t he?"

"Oh, he did," I replied, shaking my head. "But you know Ulbert—once he got an idea in his head, there was no stopping him. And speaking of Ulbert..." I gestured toward a murky swamp in the distance. "That used to be his favorite spot for experiments."

Death raised an eyebrow. "Used to be?"

"Yeah, until he decided to summon a ’controlled explosion’ of toxic sludge to see if it would create a new monster type," I said, rolling my eyes. "Instead, it obliterated the entire swamp and half the wildlife in it. We spent days trying to repair the damage, and Ulbert just kept saying, ’It was worth it.’"

Death’s quiet laughter filled the air, her amusement making the icy realm feel less cold.

As we continued walking, I pointed out various landmarks, each one tied to a story from our guild’s history.

"And over there," I said, gesturing toward a crumbling stone temple, "is where Touch Me had his infamous run-in with that vampire NPC."

Death’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Infamous, you say?"

"Oh, it was a disaster," I replied, grinning at the memory. "Touch Me was trying to rescue what he thought was a damsel in distress. He fought off a horde of monsters to save her, only to discover she was a villain. She stabbed him in the back the moment he turned around. We never let him live that down."

Death shook her head, her smile never fading. "He always was the idealist."

"That he was," I agreed, a hint of fondness in my voice. "But that was what made him Touch Me. Always ready to save someone, even if it meant walking into a trap."

"I wonder, how they are doing right now?" I said.

"They all are dead," Death said.
