As Uzui disappeared into the lively streets with Shalltear’s vampire brides, the two of us were left alone in the heart of the Entertainment District. The air was thick with the scent of sake and perfume, lanterns glowing warmly as laughter and music spilled from the teahouses and brothels around us.
I smirked, slipping my hands into my pockets. "Well, looks like it’s just the two of us now."
Shalltear turned to me with a sly smile. "Are you saying that as if it’s a bad thing, my Lord?"
I chuckled. "Not at all. If anything, I think it’s the perfect time to enjoy ourselves a little."
Shalltear’s crimson eyes gleamed with excitement. "Oh? Are you suggesting we have a date here, in the middle of our mission?"
"Why not?" I shrugged. "We’ve got time before Uzui comes back with information. Besides, it’s been a while since we spent time together without interruptions."
She giggled, linking her arm with mine without hesitation. "You always know how to treat your women, my Lord."
With that, we strolled through the district, blending in effortlessly among the crowds. Despite how Shalltear usually dressed, the illusionary magic from the artifact made her appear like a normal, albeit stunning, courtesan rather than a noble vampire.
As we walked, Shalltear’s attention was drawn to a food stall where skewered grilled meat sizzled over hot coals. Her nose twitched slightly, and she glanced at me. "I don’t usually eat human food, but I must admit, that smells delicious."
"Then let’s try some." I led her to the stall and ordered two servings.
The vendor, an older man, handed us the skewers with a friendly smile. "You two make a fine couple," he said.
Shalltear giggled, resting her head against my shoulder. "Oh my, my Lord, did you hear that? We make a fine couple."
I smirked. "Is that so surprising?"
She took a bite of the meat, chewing thoughtfully. "Hmm... this is quite good. Different from blood, but enjoyable in its own way."
We continued our stroll, taking in the sights of the district. Women dressed in lavish kimonos smiled at passing men, hoping to lure them inside their establishments. Drunken samurai and merchants stumbled out of tea houses, laughing boisterously. The district was truly alive, a place where pleasure and danger intertwined seamlessly.
As we reached a small bridge overlooking a canal, Shalltear leaned against the railing, gazing at the reflection of the lanterns in the water. "This place is fascinating," she murmured. "Not as good as Nazarick, of course."
"It is," I agreed, standing beside her. "A place where people come to escape reality, even if just for a night."
Before she could respond, a group of men approached from behind. Their eyes gleamed with greed and lust as they looked at Shalltear.
"Hey there, miss," one of them called out, grinning. "Why don’t you ditch that guy and have some fun with us instead?"
Shalltear didn’t even spare them a glance, but her grip on the railing tightened slightly.
Another man smirked. "Come on, we can show you a better time than some pretty-boy escort. We will give her back after we play with her. "
I sighed. "You guys have a death wish, don’t you?"
The leader scoffed. "What? You think you can—"
He never finished his sentence.
"{Kill yourself}," I command.
In the blink of an eye, the men put their knives in their necks and cut. Not a scream, not a trace of struggle.
Shalltear finally turned to me, licking her lips. "I was getting annoyed."
I smirked. "I figured."
No one in the district noticed what had happened, too caught up in their own pleasures. It was as if those men had never existed.
With that we continue our date.
