Hearing the footsteps downstairs, she abruptly raised her head. "Thomas..."
The name ’Thomas Shannon’ was on the tip of her tongue, but she stopped short upon seeing Minimus Hart.
Amelia Shaw withdrew her gaze in disappointment, composing herself.
Minimus Hart smiled and casually approached her. Wearing white gloves, her fingertips lightly brushed over the tea table, checking if the maid’s work was satisfactory.
With a slight smile, she lowered her head and whispered, "Did you think it was the Young Master?"
Amelia Shaw suddenly burst into laughter, her tone thick with mockery. "Minimus Hart, I actually feel rather sorry for you."
Minimus Hart stood up, her expression impassive. Her red lips slowly formed the words, "Let’s not mock each other. After all, neither of us can compete with a maniac. Not even you, Amelia Shaw."
Sophie Sullivan was awakened by pain.
A fine sheen of sweat beaded on her smooth forehead. She closed her eyes in agony, her brow tightly furrowed.
Thomas Shannon cupped her face in one hand and patted it gently. "What’s wrong?" he asked softly.
"I’ve got my period."
Intense, wave-like cramps in her lower abdomen were torturing her.
Sophie Sullivan’s face was deathly pale, her back drenched in cold sweat.
Thomas Shannon gently freed her lips, which she had bitten almost raw, from between her white shell teeth.
"The doctor will be here immediately. Just bear with it a little longer!"
"I can’t bear it anymore..."
Sophie Sullivan was in so much pain her entire body convulsed. Her face was ghastly pale, and her pupils began to lose focus.
The doctor arrived quickly. "Young Master!"
As he spoke, Thomas Shannon quickly pulled together the collar of Sophie Sullivan’s open sleep gown. The doctor entered with a medical box. "Young Master, what’s wrong with you?"
"It’s not me! Examine the maniac, quickly!"
"Yes, yes, Young Master."
The doctor secretly breathed a sigh of relief. As long as it wasn’t the Young Master.
Seeing the maniac’s condition, the doctor frowned. "Has the maniac gotten her menstrual period?"
"You’re the doctor, and you’re asking me?" Young Master Shannon roared furiously. "Can you do an examination or not? If not, get out! Get someone else!"
The doctor felt miserable being yelled at but couldn’t voice his grievances. In traditional Chinese medicine, asking questions is a diagnostic method, yet he was doubted for simply asking one. It was so unfair!
"Yes, I can treat her!" the doctor quickly affirmed. "The maniac appears to have severe symptoms of dysmenorrhea. The situation is critical; she needs medicine."
Sophie Sullivan arduously stretched out a hand, which trembled uncontrollably. "Give... me... medicine."
Thomas Shannon took her hand in his. "Save your strength. Don’t talk."
The doctor quickly retrieved medicine from the medical box and respectfully handed it to Young Master Shannon. "Young Master, have the maniac take this medicine first. It should provide some relief."
"What do you mean, ’provide some relief’?" Thomas Shannon’s cold eyes swept over him, sharp and piercing.
His gaze was terrifying.
The doctor immediately corrected his slip of the tongue. "This medicine will alleviate the maniac’s pain."
Thomas Shannon clenched the medicine, his gaze darkening. "What are you standing there for? Go get some water!"
The doctor hurried off to get water. The amount of disdain he’d endured today felt like more than he’d received in an entire year. It seemed the Young Master was truly furious!
The doctor mixed boiled water with some cold boiled water and respectfully brought it to the bedside. "Young Master, here’s the water."
Thomas Shannon gently tilted Sophie Sullivan’s chin up, his gaze lowered as he asked in a deep voice, "Can you sit up?"
Sophie Sullivan frowned. Thomas Shannon understood. He helped her sit up, letting her lean against his embrace.
He poured the medicine tablets into his palm. Thomas Shannon lowered his head, looking at her deathly pale small face. "Open your mouth. Take the medicine."
Sophie Sullivan opened her mouth, and Thomas Shannon put all the medicine tablets into her mouth at once. The bitter taste on her tongue immediately spread throughout her entire oral cavity.
Sophie Sullivan winced in pain. Then, a water cup was pressed to her lips, and Thomas Shannon’s voice sounded by her ear, "Drink some water. Swallow the medicine."
Sophie Sullivan shook her head in distress. Thomas Shannon’s brow furrowed. "What’s wrong?"
Sophie Sullivan raised her hand and spat out all the medicine tablets.
Her small face scrunched up from the bitterness. She used all her strength to exclaim, "Thomas Shannon, are you insane?"
Thomas Shannon: "..."
He was trying his best to care for her, and she called him insane?
"So much medicine! Are you trying to kill me with bitterness?"
Thomas Shannon’s brow furrowed tightly, annoyance welling up inside him. "You’re a grown woman. Can’t you even swallow a few pills?"
Sophie Sullivan: "..."
If she weren’t feeling so ill right now, she really would have wanted to raise her fists and fight him to the death.
"Alright, alright. So delicate."
Thomas Shannon poured the medicine tablets back into his palm, then offered her one. "Hurry up and take this medicine tablet."
Sophie Sullivan drank some water and swallowed the medicine tablet.
Thomas Shannon fed her another tablet, and she swallowed it.
Gradually, she managed to take all the medicine tablets. By the end, Sophie Sullivan was almost gasping for breath.
