"What’s wrong with the maniac?"
William’s eyes glinted with ridicule. "Could it be you’ve been too hard on her?"
"No one would think you’re mute if you don’t speak."
Thomas Shannon shot William Guillen a disgusted glance. He turned his head to the silent Sophie Sullivan, raised his hand, and tilted her chin, turning her face toward him.
"What are you thinking about?"
Her dazed eyes met his, which were as deep and cold as a winter pond. Sophie lowered her eyelids slightly. "Nothing."
Her current behavior was like that of a child who didn’t get candy, playing the so-called silent treatment.
In Thomas Shannon’s opinion, it was extremely childish.
Sophie lazily closed her eyes, unwilling to speak to him.
She was just feeling down, yet he somehow connected it to her being moody.
The drive to the great plains would take two to three hours.
The closer they got to the great plains, the more beautiful the scenery along the way became.
The view was a comfortable expanse of blue and green. Lush meadows stretched out, the sky vast and distant. The deep blue heavens and pure white, unblemished clouds wove together an incredibly beautiful picture.
Thomas Shannon lowered the car window, and refreshing air poured into the compartment.
The wind WHOOSHED past, accompanied by a cool voice. "Charlie River is already looking for a doctor."
Sophie opened her eyes in a daze. Was Thomas Shannon actually speaking kindly to her just now?
She turned her head uncertainly, her gaze fixed on Thomas Shannon’s incomparably handsome profile. "Were you just talking to me?"
Sophie suddenly brightened, like someone sentenced to death who abruptly learns it was all just a cruel prank. In an instant, the heavy stone weighing on her heart vanished as if it were smoke. Her spirits lifted, becoming buoyant.
Oblivious to anyone else, Sophie threw herself into Thomas Shannon’s embrace. "Thomas Shannon, what did you just say? Say it again!"
"If you didn’t hear it, then forget it."
"I can’t just forget it! You said Charlie River went to find a doctor for me, right?"
A smirk played on Thomas Shannon’s cold, handsome lips. "So you did hear?"
Sophie huffed softly, then said arrogantly, "I just want to hear you say it again yourself."
William pressed a hand to his forehead. "Can you two stop acting like conjoined twins?"
When did they get so clingy? They’re all over each other at the slightest disagreement. Have they ever considered the feelings of a bystander like him?
Thomas Shannon snorted. "You can always choose to close your eyes."
"Exactly!" Sophie wholeheartedly agreed with Young Master Shannon.
This time, she chose to side with Young Master Shannon. There was no particular reason; she was simply in a good mood!
"Fine, fine, you two win. I’ll just close my eyes, alright?"
William Guillen smiled gently, his expression harmless as he withdrew his gaze and decisively closed his eyes.
Perhaps I should call a woman over to liven things up, he mused.
Standing amidst the great plains, she truly felt her own insignificance.
Sophie began to run across the meadow, the CLIP-CLOP of hooves sounding from behind her.
Thomas Shannon pulled on the reins. The steed reared, its front hooves pawing the air, and neighed before coming to a halt.
Sophie tilted her head up, looking at the man on horseback. The sun, positioned behind him, bathed his form in a golden aura.
His face was backlit, its deep, sculpted features somewhat obscured and difficult to see clearly.
Sophie stretched out her hand. "I want to ride too!"
The man’s thin, sensual lips curved into a slight smile. "Are you sure?"
