Just as she lifted the curtain flap of the Mongolian Yurt, Sophie saw the man sitting by the bedside, enveloped in clouds of smoke.
Inside the Mongolian Yurt, the air was thick with the smell of nicotine.
Sophie frowned, instinctively about to turn and leave.
Thomas Shannon extinguished his cigarette butt, rose, and strode quickly towards her. Before Sophie could turn and leave, he lunged forward and grabbed her.
"Where are you going?"
"None of your business!"
A shadow crossed Thomas Shannon’s dark, deep eyes. "Still angry?"
Deep at night, the Meadow was still a bit chilly.
Thomas Shannon pulled her inside. "Say something. Don’t give me that sullen face."
"I don’t want to talk. Can you force me?"
Thomas Shannon didn’t want to argue with her. She’d been throwing a tantrum all night; surely that was enough.
"Alright, there’s a limit to tantrums. Know when to quit while you’re ahead, understand?"
When had Young Master Shannon ever indulged a woman ? This was the first. And the most ungrateful one at that! Not only ungrateful, but she was also audacious enough to push her luck! Thomas Shannon had never encountered a woman as difficult to handle as Maniac. She was simply an anomaly.
’Quit while I’m ahead?’ Sophie found this phrase exceptionally repulsive. She glared fiercely at Thomas Shannon. "You’re the one who should quit while you’re ahead, not me! Understand?"
"Say that again?!" Thomas Shannon’s handsome face instantly darkened.
Sophie snorted coldly, arrogantly wrenching her hand free, and turned to walk out.
Behind her, the man’s low growl echoed, "Stop!"
Sophie paid him no heed, her pace not faltering in the slightest.
Thomas Shannon was furious. "Maniac! You stop right there!"
Sophie walked off alone, leaving the Mongolian Yurt behind, and headed into the deep darkness of the Meadow.
There were no city street lamps here, only the faint, almost imperceptible light filtering down from the starry sky’s afterglow.
