Amelia Shaw was anxious. Unable to contact Thomas Shannon, she had a feeling that something was off. But as for what it was exactly, she couldn’t say at the instance.
Returning to her own bedroom, she had just prepared to lie down when her mobile phone rang. She picked up the phone and saw it was a call from Frank Mitchell. She hesitated, unsure whether to answer, but the phone ringtone was extremely patient, ringing over and over again. Amelia Shaw bit her lips and eventually answered the call, "What is it?"
"Samuel, are you free tonight? Let’s have dinner together."
Thinking of everything Frank Mitchell had done in these past two days, Amelia Shaw really couldn’t ignore him. However, she also understood that doing so would violate Thomas Shannon’s major taboo. If he found out, her fate would be miserable. Things were different now than before. Back then, he still liked her and would indulge her, but not anymore. Once he discovered this, she feared she would never be able to stay by his side again.
"Frank, please don’t call me anymore. I think... we should just let it be..."
Since they had already missed their chance, why bother getting entangled again?
Frank Mitchell’s voice was low, carrying his usual gentleness. "Samuel, it’s just one meal. What are you afraid of?"
What was she afraid of? Of course, she was afraid of Thomas Shannon finding out. He couldn’t tolerate a speck of sand in his eyes, and she didn’t want any mishap that would put her in an irrecoverable situation.
"Samuel, after all these years, our feelings... you won’t even share one meal with me?"
"I’ll be waiting for you at your favorite Restaurant. See you there."
Frank Mitchell gave her no time to respond and hung up the phone.
In the evening, Amelia Shaw still drove her Lamborghini out of the manor.
Sophie Sullivan had slept the whole night but still hadn’t cooled down. Thomas Shannon had Charlie River bring breakfast, one with a distinct Meadow flavor, but Sophie had no appetite whatsoever. She picked up her water cup, took a few sips of water, then sat listlessly, not eating anything.
"Still angry?" Thomas Shannon picked up a piece of lamb and offered it to her lips.
Sophie jerked her head away, dodging it.
Thomas Shannon chuckled softly. "Really not eating?"
"Have you thought this through? If you don’t eat this meal, there won’t be any for you next time. Are you sure you’re not eating?"
How dare he threaten me?
Sophie snorted coldly. "Fine, then. Skipping one or two meals won’t kill me."
The piece of lamb near her lips changed direction and went into Thomas Shannon’s own mouth.
"Alright. You’ve got backbone."
Sophie detected the faint mockery in his tone. She said nothing, merely scoffed.
Her menstrual period was over, but she didn’t have the medicine prescribed by the doctor with her. She wondered how she could ask Thomas Shannon about returning to Imperial City.
Unexpectedly, after Thomas Shannon took a phone call, his expression changed. He told Charlie River to prepare at once for an immediate return to Imperial City.
William Guillen was still leisurely sipping milk tea personally brewed by a herdsman. Hearing this, he turned his head. "What happened? Why the sudden rush to go back?"
Thomas Shannon’s eyes were chilling. He said nothing, merely glanced at William Guillen. "I’m leaving first."
William Guillen stood up, wanting to ask more, but Thomas Shannon had already risen and was leaving in a hurry.
A slight curve touched Sophie’s lips. Returning to Imperial City? That was exactly what she wanted!
In the car, Sophie sized up the man beside her from the corner of her eye. His expression was cold and stern, and he exuded an icy aura that warned others not to approach him easily. Inside the car’s compartment, the low air pressure was so oppressive it was almost suffocating.
