Sophie Sullivan managed a forced smile. "I’m just scared... If something inappropriate happened between me and someone else, would you still want me?"
That strained smile was more like a bitter one.
She asked cautiously, but Thomas Shannon could still hear the fear and apprehension in her voice.
Thomas Shannon pressed her head against his chest, one hand gently patting her smooth back. "I won’t let that happen."
Sophie discreetly let the corners of her mouth curve upwards. It seemed Thomas Shannon hadn’t suspected this was a play she had orchestrated entirely herself.
People are perceptive. She could sense that Thomas Shannon treated her differently, which was why she dared to be so audacious and act without restraint.
If it were anyone else, she would have curbed her audacity.
Conversely, with Thomas Shannon, she felt no need to hold back.
After a long while, Sophie, her head still resting on his chest, asked in a muffled voice, "Who drugged me?"
He’s no longer calling her Samuel?
This change in address made Sophie even more smug. Fortunately, she had been quick-witted enough to adamantly refuse to let the doctor come last night.

Sophie flung off the silk quilt, about to get off the bed.

The man’s long arm shot out, powerfully encircling her waist and pulling her back into his embrace.
"Can’t you just lie down obediently? Must you be so stubborn?" Thomas Shannon’s brows were knitted tightly, his tone both cold and urgent.
The sight of him looking like he wanted to beat her yet couldn’t bring himself to do it left Sophie stunned.
Sophie stared at him blankly, blurting out, "Thomas Shannon, do you like me?"
"I like sleeping with you!"
Sophie smiled. Cupping his handsome face with both hands, she boldly tilted it from side to side a couple of times. "Liking me isn’t anything to be ashamed of. Besides, if you don’t confess, how am I supposed to decide whether to like you back?"
"No!" Sophie, growing bolder, pressed, "Tell me quickly, has the doctor Charlie River found arrived yet? Can my face be saved?"
