How laughable! That woman’s audacity was the most shameless William Guillen had ever encountered. There was no comparison. He really doubted what Thomas had seen in her in the first place. Was it just because of her deceivingly beautiful face? Now that Thomas had feelings for the maniac, her jealousy was a clear reflection of her true feelings. William Guillen was genuinely happy for him; at least this time, the woman he liked wasn’t a shameless scoundrel like Amelia Shaw.
Thomas Shannon’s lips curved into a smile. He tilted his head back and drained the wine in his glass.
It was like being lost in a misty forest and suddenly finding the correct way out. His mood was tinged with a slight excitement.
Putting down the wine glass, he stood up. "Lan Singh, I’m leaving."
"Not going to have a couple more drinks with me?"
"Leaving in such a hurry?" William Guillen continued to tease, as if determined to provoke Young Master Shannon.
Thomas Shannon shot him a cold glance, then withdrew his gaze, turned, and strode away.
Sophie Sullivan gradually felt a chill. The sunshine could not penetrate the dense canopy, and the temperature in the forest was very low.
She was lightly dressed and shivered involuntarily.
Her whole body trembled, and goosebumps rose on her skin.
Around her, unidentified birds were still calling, their sounds terrifying and eerie.
They sounded like crows, yet not quite—their calls were deeper, more horrifying and unsettling than any crow’s.
In this dim and cold forest, the sounds echoed, constantly grating on one’s eardrums.
Sophie Sullivan took a deep breath, telling herself not to overthink and to calm down. Thomas Shannon can’t possibly keep me locked up here forever. He’ll release me soon.
Holding onto this conviction, she simply sat down on the ground to conserve her energy, rested her chin on her knees, and closed her eyes to rest.
She didn’t know how long it had been. Just as she was succumbing to fatigue and about to fall asleep, she suddenly heard a rustling sound approaching her.
