Nanxi did not expect to see Li Weihuan here, similarly, Li Weihuan did not expect to see Nanxi here either!
Li Weihuan had come out to dinner with Bai Yuchuan and Yan Chenqing, laughing at the lively couple at the table opposite them, whose blushes deepened as the boy kept calling his girlfriend "wife".
The girl was quite adorable and shy, imploring him to keep it down. The boy was rather insistent, asking, "Why, are you afraid people will find out you’re my wife? Well, I want everyone to know that you’re my wife, and if anyone dares to snatch you away, I’ll obliterate them!"
The girl playfully shoved him aside, grinning sweetly while finishing a plate of food that the boy had served her.
Li Weihuan watched them from a distance, the scene felt all too familiar that it momentarily evoked a flicker of nostalgia. He poured himself a glass of wine and knocked it back to hide the pang of emotion.
Bai Yuchuan and Yan Chenqing quietly watched on without interrupting him.
Li Weihuan quietly listened to the couple throughout their meal until they were ready to leave.
"Huanzi, want another drink?"
Bai Yuchuan asked him.
Li Weihuan shook his head. "No more, I’m a bit drunk. I need some fresh air, you guys keep eating!"
Then, Li Weihuan followed the couple out of the small restaurant.
Underneath the streetlight, the young couple playfully teased each other, exhibiting such affection that it was hard not to envy them.
Upon hearing the boy call the girl "wife" again, the emotions that he had managed to keep at bay throughout dinner finally began to creep up on him. His eyelashes trembled, with tears threatening to fall.
He tried his best to blink back the tears, tilting his head back to allow his emotions to regain control. He took a deep breath, preparing to return to the restaurant.
Just then, he saw Nanxi.
Nanxi was standing under a dimly lit streetlight, in her usual white dress. Her hair flowing freely, revealing her delicate legs. Stunningly beautiful as always.
She stood under the streetlight, looking at the couple he had been following, frozen in her tracks, her body rigid.
He wondered if she, too, was reminded of their past through watching the couple. Did she remember his words? The way he used to love her with his whole life?
He really didn’t want to look her in the eye, he really planned to escape right then, but she found him anyway!
She turned her head, her beautiful eyes reflecting the starlight. But the broken pieces in these starry eyes were not for him!
He wanted to approach her, to hold her in a tight embrace, to call her name once more in her ear, to tell her that he misses her every day, every night, every moment. He is always missing her!
But when he took a step forward, his gaze landed on the man who had just stepped out of a white phantom car not far away.
It was at that moment reality came crashing in, leading him into a harsh reality he could not bear to face!
He had lost Nanxi. His Nanxi had become someone else’s. The Nanxi whom he loved no longer loved him back. Nanxi had married his Uncle and became his Auntie Nanxi!
So, what could their presence here even mean?
All that’s left of the past is past, it will never come back!
The only thing he could say now is: He once loved Nanxi, only once!
The car’s horn sounded by his side, he startled, looked back and saw Bai Yuchuan looking at him through the car window, saying just two words coldly, "Get in!"
He was startled, but he didn’t move.
"I’ll say it one more time, get in!"
There’s a threat hidden in Bai Yuchuan’s words. He shook his head, lips forming a radiant arc, smiled faintly, "I’m fine, just saying hello before going!"
As Bai Yuchuan was about to call out to him, he walked stubbornly towards Nanxi. Bai Yuchuan, Yan Chenqing and Lu Yinchu could only watch him approach Nanxi.
Nanxi stood there, eyelashes trembling, paralyzed, she had completely forgotten to move.
"What a coincidence!"
Li Weihuan gave a faint greeting.
Nanxi pursed her lips and responded, "Yes... What a coincidence!"
Li Weihuan smiled. "I was dining with Xiaobai and them. I had a little too much drink and came out to sober up, didn’t expect to see you! How about you? Out for dinner?"
"I..." Nanxi’s eyes flickered, "I’ve come out for dinner!"
"Sure, you’re out with your husband?"
