Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead Chapter 498

Faceless corpses, laying in pools of their own blood- A cadaver, once blind to the greater truth, now blinded to all…

Immobile, forcefully so, a being of no mind felt the sole object of its fear and the sole remaining object of safety relentlessly clashing, cracks spreading across the wall, the ground, the ceiling, over all surfaces, more and more piled up atop one another, cutting through those that had come before, only to be blindsided by newer ones in the next moment.

All was crumbling down, all was crashing, falling apart amidst the furious strikes, all that had been created was being torn to shreds, the ecosystem that had been erected in record time was going to be extinguished in even less.

As the limbless creature came close to being crushed by falling debris, water splashing over its warped form, it was only luck that could save it right now, its already dubious control over the underground biome only served to manifest and maintain it, the furious clash taking place currently was overwhelming its hold over this place on top of that, even with a newly awakened sense of fear and will to live, nothing could be done.

Right in front of this being, a vertical dark line appeared across the air, from which horizontal lines manifested on both sides, the pitch blackness they were formed from oozing what reassembled smoke and sludge, the singular horizontal line parted into two, giving the impression of a jaw opening, giving way into a space of pure dark, a singular dull eye staring directly from within, its pupil shape like a cross and swirling counter-clock wise.

Stepping out of the darkness, undeads quickly took hold of the limbless being, raising it from the pond it was planted upon, taking it into the maw, where it could no longer sense a single thing, the odd portal quickly closing, snapping shut and fading away into nothingness.

As soon as it happened, the biome lost its master, all plants, all trees, withered away, all water drained in mere seconds, leaving the two last combatants within to fight in what looked like a wasteland, although this was merely the area returning to its true, original state.

Up above, the overwhelmingly loud sound of breaking glass spread outward, repeatedly bouncing, echoing across the crumbling surface of the cavern, light banished from this deep space, and so was breathable air, virtually condemning all life within.

Alisart Cleavster felt his lungs filling with the dust risen and nothing else, true darkness was all that filled his vision.

'Crap…' the warking's blade was chipped, his armour in a sorry state, blood flowing from countless cuts and bruises, helm having already fallen down into pieces, it had already been a difficult fight from the very beginning, without being able to see nor breath, it would be even worse.

But at least, his opponent was also robbed of those, as monstrous as The Death Dealer may be, she still needed to fill her lungs and have some sort of visual contact with what she wanted to strike.

Gusts of wind went right past him, slashes splitting his skin, he swung in the dark, spotting two bright eyes moving about and disappearing, striking nothing, the cold edge of two curved blades wrapping around his neck, leaving no space for him to move without slicing his neck open.

His lungs under much strain as they slowly filled up with dust, the warking standing perfectly still, trying to find a way out of this situation.

He was not seeing much of a way out.

Up above, on the surface, Aramap and those who had not fallen to Maliah had manifested into an open space minutes before the limbless creature was taken away, for it was also one of its capabilities that allowed them to be transported up there, usually, they would return to where they had appeared after a while to retreat back underground, but currently, it was to the surface that they were running. "Sir Aramap…" a dispirited Pitit called out, the knight could not see souls like she could, but he had already noticed, in fact, there was no need for a special ability or honed senses to know it.

Flying in the sky, inside of the barrier of life, an immense creatures gently floated through the air, a dark mass of flowing tentacles and tendrils, moving about as though swaying in water, glows assumed to be eyes shining at the front of this elegant, yet oppressive silhouette, yet the most striking feature were its very much human-like, pristine white teeth.

A soft melody permeated the air, there was no mistaking it, this song was coming from this creature flying far above in the sky, it was recomforting, it was beautiful, inviting a deep calmness within all of the livings, all around them, undeads were already present, none seemed to be carrying weapons, no, instead they were singing alongside the great beast, dancing under the dim moonlight.

'Moonlight?' Aramap turned to the moon, knowing that nights on the surface were supposed to have gone lightless a long time ago.

He felt his head spinning, the sudden movement sending him to the ground moments after everyone else had already collapsed upon the tall grass, lying on his back, Aramap felt abnormally calm, but he knew deep down, that they had already been defeated, he had known it since before The Death Dealer appeared, everyone had known.

But they had refused to accept this outcome when life still dwelled within their hearts, as long as their arms could swing, as their legs could move, they would deny the undead's already obvious victory.

'Damned you all be…' his back sensed a vibration reaching him, it could have been many things, but he felt confident that his glorious king had just detonated life bombs, to willfully stay behind and face the sadistic edge of Maliah, he truly was the greatest of them, as up on the surface, the death that awaited them could only be of two, either made of valour in combat, or peaceful, as was currently set for them.

Walking up to the fallen livings, as though taken in the throes of sleep paralysis, none could move as other undeads garbed in flowing silk approached them, carrying curved daggers, yet even as many of them had their throats pierced, no one felt apprehension, stuck in an induced state of harmony and utter lull.

Blood flowed for a short time as all signs of life quickly left everyone's bodies, Aramap stared into the veiled face of his killer, whilst Pitit saw the utterly immaculate souls of the merciless executioners, so pure, so white…

Simply beautiful, truly a confusing thing they were, the vilest soul she had seen had belonged to a living, whilst the most enchanting, was that of an undead.

Truly a wonder, how killers without a shred of hesitation could possibly be so bright at their deepest core.
