This invincible, damage overwriting trick was not useful much anywhere else than against the Poison Dragon, because the mechanic of that enemy was to inflict exactly 1 true, piercing damage, which means no damage reduction, resistance, or shield could stop that damage.
Honestly? Terrible boss design, I couldn’t imagine how else any party would take this one down, many parties indeed have, by just stat-check it with level >100 healers and tankers. Or just hire 20 people, making the Poison Dragon cast its skill 20 times and dying itself.

Stat-checking is a newer term meant overwhelming an enemy with superior level and raw status, like Hit Points, Strength, Armor,... Instead of actual teamwork, skill or brains.
