The crowd roared, a tidal wave of excitement crashing through the stands—"Vortex! Vortex!"—banners waving with "Gwen's Ghosts Rule!" and "Blaine's Toast!" Gwen strode onto the battlefield, her wild hair glinting under the lights, a mischievous grin plastered across her face at 15.
'Glady is again stealing my spotlight. Time to show who is the boss in the Vortex family outside of Mom and her Charizard. And well Grandpa's Venasaur. Who better to beat than Mom's dad to show who is the boss?' Gwen thought giddily
Across from her, Blaine emerged, his bald head gleaming, sunglasses perched as he smirked, exuding the confidence of a war-hardened veteran. The pond-and-grass field reset, glistening anew, ready for a clash of fire and shadow.
The referee raised his flags. "This is a six-on-six match, full battle rules! Substitutions allowed—first to knock out all opposing Pokémon wins. Begin!"
Gwen flicked her first Poké Ball with a flourish. "Mismagius, let's haunt 'em!" The Ghost-type materialized, her purple cloak billowing, a cackle echoing as she hovered over the grass.
Blaine tossed his own at the same time. "Flareon, burn it down!" The Fire-type landed with a snarl, flames licking its orange fur.
"Mismagius, Mystical Fire!" Gwen called, her voice sharp. Mismagius spun, conjuring a ring of eerie flames that spiraled toward Flareon.
Blaine's eyes narrowed behind his shades. "Dodge and Flamethrower!" Flareon leapt aside, the mystical blaze singeing the grass, then unleashed a roaring jet of fire. Mismagius twisted, but the flames clipped her, drawing a hiss. "Power Gem!" Gwen pressed.
Mismagius retaliated, crystalline beams lancing from her gems, striking Flareon hard. It staggered, growling, but Blaine barked, "Fire Spin!" A fiery vortex trapped Mismagius, heat scorching her spectral form.
Gwen gritted her teeth—close, too close—but Mismagius broke free with a Shadow Sneak, slamming Flareon from behind, knocking it out.
"Flareon is unable to battle!" the referee shouted. The announcer boomed, "Gwen strikes first—Mismagius dances through the flames to take down Flareon! Blaine's down one!"
Blaine recalled Flareon, unfazed. "Houndoom, go!" The Dark-Fire hound emerged, horns glinting, a howl chilling the air. Gwen smirked. "Mismagius, stay in—Shadow Ball!" A dark orb hurtled toward Houndoom, but Blaine countered, "Flamethrower—full blast!" The fire clashed with the orb, exploding mid-air, smoke billowing. Houndoom lunged through, jaws snapping with Crunch, catching Mismagius off-guard.
She wailed, fading under the assault. "Mismagius is unable to battle!" The referee announced.
Gwen recalled her, muttering, "Good haunt, girl."
Gwen's next ball flashed. "Sableye, speed 'em up!" The speedy Ghost-Dark gremlin skittered out, gems glinting, claws twitching. Blaine kept Houndoom in.
"Fire Fang!" Houndoom charged, flames wreathing its maw, but Sableye darted aside, its agility a blur. "Shadow Sneak!" Gwen ordered. Sableye melted into the shadows, striking Houndoom's flank, sending it skidding. Blaine growled, "Thunder Fang!" Electricity sparked as Houndoom bit back, clipping Sableye, who yelped but clung on. "Foul Play!" Gwen shouted. Sableye turned Houndoom's strength against it, flipping the hound into the pond with a splash, knocking it out.
"Houndoom is unable to battle!" The announcer roared, "Sableye's speed and trickery take down Houndoom! Blaine's at two—Gwen's rolling!"
Blaine's jaw tightened, tossing his next. "Magcargo, heat it up!" The Fire-Rock slug oozed onto the field, lava dripping. Gwen smirked.
"Sableye, Shadow Claw!" Sableye's claws slashed, raking Magcargo, but its rocky hide absorbed much of the blow. "Flamethrower!" Blaine commanded. A searing jet engulfed Sableye, who squeaked, barely dodging the brunt.
"Knock Off!" Gwen pressed. Sableye swiped, dislodging Magcargo's heat aura, weakening its next move. Blaine countered, "Earth Power!" The ground erupted beneath Sableye, flinging it skyward, battered.
Gwen winced—'Too close'—but Sableye landed, shaky. "Shadow Sneak—finish it!" Sableye struck from below, toppling Magcargo into a sizzling heap.
"Magcargo is unable to battle!" The announcer's voice soared, "Three down for Blaine—Sableye's a speed demon! Gwen's ghosts are relentless!"
The crowd chanted—"Gwen! Gwen!"—a kid yelling, "Sableye's too fast!" Agatha, in the Elite Four box, cackled softly.
'She's got my style—tricky, ruthless. Blaine's sweating now.'
Blaine's smirk faded, replaced by a scowl as he released Rapidash. "Rapidash, charge—Flare Blitz!" The Fire-type galloped, wreathed in flames, slamming Sableye before it could react. The gremlin crumpled, out cold. "Sableye is unable to battle!" Gwen recalled it, muttering,
The announcer hyped, "Rapidash blazes in, flattening Sableye with Flare Blitz! Gwen's down two, Blaine's at three—things are heating up!"
Gwen's third ball spun. "Banette, let's curse 'em!" The Ghost-type doll emerged, zipper grin wide, eerie energy pulsing.
Blaine kept Rapidash in. "Fire Spin!" A fiery vortex trapped Banette, but Gwen grinned. "Destiny Bond!" Banette's eyes glowed, linking their fates. Rapidash charged with Flame Charge, striking Banette hard, but as it fell, Destiny Bond triggered—Rapidash collapsed too, knocked out by the curse.
"Rapidash and Banette are unable to battle!" The announcer roared, "A double knockout! Banette's Destiny Bond pulls Rapidash down with it—Blaine's at four down, Gwen's at three down! What a twist!"
Blaine's fists clenched, tossing his next. "Charizard, soar!" The Fire-Flying titan roared, wings beating as it took flight.
Gwen's eyes glinted. "Dusknoir, crush 'em!" The super-strong Ghost emerged, its single eye glowing, pressure radiating. "Shadow Punch!" Gwen ordered. Dusknoir's fist struck, unavoidable, rocking Charizard mid-air. Blaine snarled, "Flamethrower!" A torrent of fire engulfed Dusknoir, who grunted, enduring. "Earthquake!" Gwen countered. Dusknoir slammed the ground, shaking the stadium—Charizard faltered, crashing. "Dragon Claw!" Blaine roared. Charizard rallied, slashing Dusknoir, who reeled.
"Phantom Force!" Gwen pressed. Dusknoir vanished, reappearing to slam Charizard, knocking it out.
"Charizard is unable to battle!" The announcer bellowed, "Dusknoir's power topples Charizard! Blaine's down to his last."
