Pokemon: A Gym Leader's Rise(SI) Chapter 164

Gladion strode through the Moonwood navy outpost as he approached the holding cell where a Team Rocket grunt sat, bloodied and slumped, his black uniform torn, the red "R" smeared with grime.

Gladion's eyes narrowed, his psychic senses already probing the man's aura—fearful, defiant, but fragile.

'No time for niceties,' he thought, his smirk cold. 'This town's safety comes first. If he's got answers about the current situation, I'll find them.'

Without hesitation, Gladion plunged into the grunt's mind, his psychic powers tearing through memories like a Gengar through shadows.

Normally, mind-reading was a delicate process, a slow unraveling to avoid shattering the subject's psyche, but Gladion didn't care about this Rocket's sanity.

'You picked the wrong town to mess with.' Images flashed—Team Rocket operatives on a rickety vessel, nets hauling squirming Magikarp from the sea, their scales glinting in the moonlight.

'Idiots,' Gladion thought, his aura darkening. The grunt's memories revealed Rocket's plan: capture Magikarp to force their evolution into Gyarados, building a sea army to crush Team Aqua's naval dominance. They have been getting hammered by Team Aqua and needed some water Pokemon to fight them in water. They decided to get the easiest water Pokemon available that could evolve intro terrifying beasts.

But they'd overreached. A group of Magikarp, enraged by the capture of so many of their kind, evolved en masse, their bodies twisting into towering Gyarados.

They obliterated the Rocket vessel, Hyper Beams vaporizing six grunts, leaving this lone survivor. More Gyarados joined, drawn by the fury, their collective rage now aimed at Moonwood's coast. 'They're not just angry—they're out for blood.'

Gladion withdrew, the grunt slumping unconscious, drooling. 'Pathetic.'

He turned to Marshal Torres, who stood nearby, his scar twitching with worry. "Got it," Gladion said, his voice low, urgent. "Team Rocket was poaching Magikarp to build a Gyarados army against Team Aqua. They took too many, pissed off a group, and triggered a mass evolution. Now a dozen Gyarados are coming here, fueled by rage, and more are joining them." Content originally comes from novel✦fire.net

Torres's face paled, his hand gripping his Poké Ball belt. "Arceus help us. We've got no choice, then. We kill most of them, or they won't stop. Gyarados are called dragons for a reason, even if they're not Dragon-types. They'll raze Moonwood to the ground."

Gladion nodded,"Agreed. We hit hard, fast."

"Where's your mother, Gym Leader?" Torres asked, glancing at the coast, where waves roared ominously. "Erza's fire could turn the tide." Gladion shook his head, his smirk wry.

'Mom would love torching some sea snakes.'

"She's in Hoenn on business. But I've called the rangers—they're evacuating nearby Pokémon and civilians, then sending backup." Torres nodded, relieved but tense. "Good. We'll need all the help we can get."

Gladion stepped outside, the salty air heavy with the distant bellows of Gyarados. Trainers and soldiers rallied, their Pokémon—Arcanines, Machamps, a Golduck—forming a defensive line along the shore.

Gladion tossed his Poké Balls, releasing his team in a flash of light that drew gasps from the trainers.

Hydros (Blastoise) landed with a thud, cannons gleaming. Mystique (Milotic) coiled gracefully, her scales shimmering.

Zeus (Electivire) sparked, antennae crackling. Eldergreen (Tropius) spread its leafy wings, fruit dangling from its neck. Ultron (Metagross) hovered, its steel body a fortress.

And Colossus, the Alpha Tyranitar, roared, shaking the ground, its massive form a living mountain. The trainers stared, awestruck. "That's Gladion Vortex's team?" one whispered. "We're saved!" another cheered.

Gladion's voice cut through the murmurs, sharp and commanding. "Alright, team, we've got a dozen angry Gyarados heading for Moonwood. They're out for blood, and we're stopping them." His psychic aura flared, linking with his Pokémon, their resolve mirroring his.

"Hydros, Mystique, you're with the navy's Water-types. Hold the shore—keep those Gyarados from flooding the town with tsunamis. Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, whatever it takes." Hydros rumbled, cannons priming, while Mystique hissed, her tail flicking.

Gladion nodded, turning to Zeus and Eldergreen. "Zeus, you're riding Eldergreen. Harass the Gyarados from the sky. Electric's got the advantage—Thunderbolt, Shock Wave, hit hard. Tropius your grass type moves would also be an advantage against them. With your speed, you could dodge anything they throw at you."

Zeus crackled, grinning. [Gonna fry those snakes!] Eldergreen rustled its leaves. [Just don't zap me, sparkplug.]

"Ultron," Gladion continued, "set up Psychic barriers. Protect the shore—trainers, Pokémon, civilians—from Hyper Beams. No leaks." Ultron's red eyes glowed, its telepathic voice cold. "Barriers will hold. Gyarados will break."

Gladion's smirk widened, his eyes locking on Colossus, whose tail lashed, eager. "Colossus, you're with me. Let's tear out some flying snakes."

The Tyranitar roared, the sound echoing like a landslide, its aura a storm of raw power. Gladion's psychic senses caught a flicker of fear from the trainers, but he ignored it. 'They'll see that this town would be protected by me and no harm shall befall the town until I stand.'

Torres approached, his Arcanine at his side, growling. "Gym Leader, we've got Water-types—Golduck, Kingler—ready to support Hydros and Mystique. Rangers are inbound, ten minutes out."

Gladion nodded, his aura scanning the sea. The Gyarados were closer now, their roars shaking the air, waves crashing higher. "Good. Tell your trainers to focus on containment—keep the Gyarados offshore. My team will handle the heavy hits."

Torres saluted, his voice grim. "Understood. Let's save this town."
