Pokemon: A Gym Leader's Rise(SI) Chapter 189

The Indigo League conference room was packed today as the monthly meeting was held. Normally not many of the top people in the Indigo region attend it. The gym leaders and the Elite four usually send their representatives or no one at all. So the ones who were mostly doing the meeting was some top politicians across Kanto and Johto.

But today it was different. All major Gym Leaders from Kanto and Johto with a few exceptions, the Elite Four, the current Indigo Champion, and Professor Oak—the region's first Champion and head researcher—filled the seats.

Top League officials who were usually the boss during these meetings seated as they knew that the meeting would be quite heated.

The meeting began, and a League official, his face dripping with arrogance, stood, "Let's start with the first agenda," he sneered. "This bullshit new Pokémon type that supposedly counters Dragons. Complete bogus."

His voice rose, venomous. "We need to make this so-called Fairy type null and void. There's no such thing! If there was, why did we only find out now? Why did we not find about in in the last century? We did not know about another type even when we were at war with other regions."

Anyone who did not know the man could tell that he was a member and one of the representatives of the Blackthorn clan in the meeting. Only they'd lose their minds over Dragons getting a weakness.

And yes, one of the representatives. Blackthorn clan was the strongest clan in the Indigo region with a lot of political power. Heck, they had an entire city under their clan's name.

Blackthorn's ranches bred Dragonites, Kingdras, and, since Hoenn's borders opened, Flygons, pairing their young children with newborn Dragons to cement their power.

The official pressed on, his voice shrill. "A type that beats Dragons called Fairy? It's a deliberate attack to demean the Blackthorn Clan!"

He glared at Professor Oak, who sipped his tea calmly, as if the man's words were childish gibberish. "We all know Oak has an agenda against Blackthorn after stealing his ace Dragonite during the war!"

Everyone knew that Oak earned that Dragonite's trust. This guy's just was whining. In fact, the entire Blackthorn clan was whining about it since decades.

To everyone's shock, Lance, the Blackthorn Clan's strongest trainer and clan head's son, stood up for Oak, "Professor Oak is a respected professor and former Champion," Lance said, glaring at the official.

"He gained its trust fair and square. Keep your words in check." The official shrank back, his pride deflating under Lance's authority.

Gladion caught the undercurrents, 'Either Lance is playing good cop to this guy's bad cop, or there's internal tension in Blackthorn. Interesting. It also means Lance accepts the Fairy type's real. That's a twist.'

The official, flustered, shifted his attention from Professor Oak. "Do you all think there's really a type that can beat Dragons? A Mr. Mime or Azurill against a Dragonite? Laughable!"

Murmurs rippled through the room, some people nodding in agreement.

Oak chuckled as he set down his tea and spoke for the first time in the meeting.

"Did anyone say Fairy types beat Dragons? I said they have a type advantage, just like any other type against another. Beating any Pokémon, regardless of type, requires skill. Overcoming a type disadvantage just needs more skill as a trainer."

Agatha crackled with laughter,"What Oaky dear is politely saying is, if you Blackthorns are good enough trainers, stop crying. Want to prove you're not underestimated because of some Fairy types? Don't let a Mr. Mime or Azurill beat you."

The official's face flushed, his aura embarrassed, as the room stifled chuckles. 'Ouch, Say whatever you want about Agatha but she does not care about politeness or well. ....rules.' Gladion thought. ᴛʜɪs ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ɪs ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ʙʏ 𝖓𝖔𝖛𝖊𝖑~𝖋𝖎𝖗𝖾~𝖓𝖊𝖙

The official, desperate to save face, shifted topics. "Very well, let's move to the next agenda. Gym Leader Gladion, you're unauthorizedly raiding places of important League figures using your authority as a Gym Leader. I support the motion to demote Moonwood Gym to a minor gym and Gladion to a minor Gym Leader."

His voice burned with spite, clearly targeting Gladion and his father for his role in the Fairy-type reveal. "We can't let his actions influence others to misuse their authority."

'This guy's not even subtle,' Gladion thought with amusement as he looked at the official like he was the dumbest person alive.

'Jeez, it feels like I'm the protagonist of a Chinese cultivation novel, face-slapping every cliché villain who comes at me.'

Latias's voice chimed in his mind as she used her psychic prowess from her pokeball, [These fellows are amusing, little brother. They're offended because someone said their Dragons could lose to other Pokémon. They squabble instead of proving their Dragon supremacy in battle.]

Latios's voice followed, [You were right—politics are entertaining. I haven't had this much fun watching something in decades.]

Gladion's thought, 'For century-old dragons, they find politics hilarious. Not that I can judge—I love this stuff too. The thrill of outscheming people, laughing at their plans in my head… is it because I'm psychic? Do my powers make me love mind games?'

'Maybe that's why I'm the one face-slapping these guys. My psychic aura gives me a higher IQ than these lowlifes.'

His thoughts wandered. 'Does a person's aura influence their actions? Worth researching. He shook his head, refocusing on the meeting.
