Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom Chapter 617

When Cain left, he continued pondering Regi's identity.

As the heir of that family and someone with the right to become Team Rocket's leader, killing Regi would bring many complications.

However, Cain believed Giovanni likely didn't pay much attention to that family or to Regi.

Yesterday, during Cain's conversation with Giovanni, there was no mention of Regi, as though his life or death didn't matter at all.

In truth, there wasn't much of a blood connection between Giovanni and Regi.

"Maybe Giovanni truly doesn't want to see Regi. It's just that, as the leader, he doesn't care to deal with someone so insignificant, and some lower-ranking members misunderstand this, leading to the current situation," Cain thought, smiling.

This possibility wasn't low. If it were confirmed that Giovanni had children, Cain could be 80% certain. But for now, the likelihood remained at 50%.

Cain didn't want to take the risk either, as he could lose more than he would gain.

Regi... it's better to let him live, because as long as Giovanni is around, no matter how much Regi grows, he won't cause major problems.

"I suppose many others have realized this too, but like me, they don't want to take the risk."

Cain smiled slightly and left Team Rocket's base.

Then, he changed his appearance to resemble a League member, exited Vermilion City, and headed toward Saffron City, riding on his Pokémon, Tropius.

After Cain left, a ripple resembling a spatial distortion appeared in a corner of Umbra's room, revealing a figure.

"What do you think, Tenebris?" Umbra asked without looking up, calmly focusing on the book in his hands.

"The boy hid some things, perhaps related to that Pokémon, but it's not important. What he shared about the island does hold some value," replied Tenebris, clad in a sleek black suit that only revealed his eyes.

Umbra and Tenebris, the two vice-leaders of the Shadows Unit, were among Giovanni's closest allies and knew far more about Team Rocket than most.

"The leader has been pursuing Mew for a long time. It's said that since the time of the previous leader, Mew has been Team Rocket's target, but unfortunately, it's never been seen," Umbra said, slowly raising his head to look at Tenebris, who stood in a shadowy corner of the room.

"This Mythical Island is the result of years of searching. The leader can't wait any longer and has ordered us to head to the island to find any information about Mew, the more detailed, the better," Tenebris explained, relaying Giovanni's orders.

It turned out Giovanni had some information about Mythical Island and believed something related to Mew could be there.

"Ah, it's time to act again."

Umbra paused after saying this, smiled, and continued: "That's fine. Many were eager to see me fail, thinking my strength had greatly diminished. Even some of the newer ones, like Lucius, dared to challenge me repeatedly. It's time to show them what the Shadows Unit is made of."

From the corner, a faint response could be heard, but the figure in the shadows had already vanished.

Umbra looked at the corner where Tenebris had stood and fell into thought.

Before nightfall, Cain arrived at the Pokémon Center in Saffron City.

He checked in at the center and handed over his League-certified Pokémon to Nurse Joy to check for any hidden injuries.

Through the Devon Corporation representative in Saffron City, Cain purchased a ticket for the fastest flight to Mauville City in the Hoenn region.

At midnight, at 12:00, Cain boarded the plane to Mauville City.

The reason he didn't go to Rustboro City was that Cain knew Steven was training elsewhere. Even if he arrived in Rustboro City, he wouldn't be able to find him; it was better to go directly to Mauville City, which was slightly closer to Leafy Town.

When Cain arrived at the entrance of Leafy Town, he discovered the place had changed dramatically.

The tallest building was still Cain's Water-type Gym, followed by the Pokémon Center, the Breeders' Guild, and the League Police Station.

But in addition to those, there was now a new commercial district, which Cain had discussed with Steven before leaving: Leafy Town's shopping street.

To develop commerce in the town, the Devon Corporation had made a great effort to build a wide road connecting Mauville City to Leafy Town, facilitating transportation.

There was no denying that construction teams in the Pokémon world were truly impressive.

Cain had only been gone for fifteen days, yet all the buildings in Leafy Town were already completed, with many in use.

The shops on the shopping street were already open. Although it wasn't crowded, compared to the old Leafy Town, it was much livelier.

Smiles could also be seen on the faces of Leafy Town's residents.

Cain had developed the town and provided employment opportunities for its residents, increasing their economic income and stimulating the town's growth.

Now, there were many new faces—people who had come from different places, drawn by Devon Corporation's advertising for the shopping street.

Additionally, the establishment of Leafy Town's Gym made it a must-visit stop for many trainers on their journeys.

The surrounding unexplored mountains also attracted many trainers eager to explore.

However, following Cain's orders, a large portion of the mountains behind the Gym was designated as Gym territory, and no one could enter without authorization.

Next to the Gym, there was a large pit where workers were excavating earth.

This was the artificial lake Cain had planned before leaving, and it now had a considerable scale.

It was still in the process of expansion, with surrounding facilities being improved as well.

Once completed, the lake would become one of Leafy Town's main attractions.

Many Water-type Pokémon would live there, and trainers looking to catch one would find this lake an important spot, further increasing the town's visitor flow.

Additionally, thanks to Cain's presence, the Heaven Team, and the respect commanded by his master, Matsuda Takashi, no new criminal organizations had appeared in Leafy Town.

Any organization attempting to establish itself was quickly eliminated by the Heaven Team.

Today, both overtly and covertly, Cain had absolute control over Leafy Town.
