The moment Grovyle used Detect, Greta knew things were going south. Hariyama's Foresight combined with Focus Punch was her ace tactic. But if the opponent had a move like Protect or Detect, it would completely counter Foresight, putting her in a difficult position!
As Grovyle activated Giga Drain, Hariyama's energy was continuously absorbed, causing it to struggle and try to hit Grovyle with its large hands. But Grovyle was simply too fast for Hariyama to keep up.
After Giga Drain ended, Hariyama was exhausted, while Grovyle, now revitalized, was full of energy!
"Grovyle, use Double Team, then follow up with Bullet Seed!"

For some reason, Grovyle kept recalling the scene where Ponyta evolved into Rapidash. If it evolved at this moment, in addition to its speed, it would gain even more attack power. Then it could stand up to this Hariyama without hesitation.
Looking back at Ash, Grovyle saw that his gaze was still firmly on it. As its partner, even without evolving, Ash had helped train it to make the most of its strengths through tactical strategies. Their bond was undeniable!

Now, all of Grovyle's Double Team copies had evolved into Sceptile, with its most noticeable change being its tail, which had become thorny and spiked.
"Bullet Seed!" Ash commanded.
Sceptile's attack hit Hariyama head-on! Hariyama was barely able to stay upright, but Ash had no intention of stopping. To properly respect Greta and her Fighting-type Gym, Ash would give it his all.
"Go, Sceptile! Use Leaf Blade for the finishing move!"
Sceptile's speed was unmatched as all of its shadow copies charged towards Hariyama. A flash of light followed, and two green slashes landed on Hariyama, causing it to fall.
"Hariyama … is unable to battle. Sceptile wins!"
The referee announced the victory.
"Yeah, Ash won the first match! And Grovyle evolved into Sceptile, that's amazing!" Misty and May cheered, thrilled by the turn of events.
Greta returned Hariyama to its Poké Ball and gave Ash a thumbs-up. "Impressive. As expected from someone handpicked by Scott. Alright, Medicham, you're up next!"
Medicham entered the battlefield.
"Ding! Congratulations to the host, Sceptile has successfully defeated Hariyama and gained 15,000 battle experience points!"
Using a Triple Experience Boost Card!
"Ding! The Triple Experience Boost Card activated successfully.
Sceptile gained 45,000 battle experience points!"
Just like that, Sceptile leveled up from 45 to 47!
For a Hoenn powerhouse like Sceptile, even its evolution was uniquely special!
"Sceptile, you've done great; take a rest. This next round belongs to Snorlax."
Sceptile nodded, having hardly taken any damage during its battle with Hariyama.
"Snor-snor!" Snorlax raised its strong arms, signaling to Ash that it was ready to handle this match.
"Finally, Ash is letting Snorlax battle! Little Snorlax, pay close attention to Ash's Snorlax!" May quickly brought out her baby Munchlax to watch Ash's battle strategy.
