At the Pokémon Center, Nurse Joy examined Brock and confirmed that he was merely exhausted. Relieved, the group let out a collective sigh.
No matter how much they prodded him, Brock couldn't remember anything after being taken by Gastly. His memories were a complete blank.
After settling him into bed in the dormitory, Kai instructed Ash to watch over him before leaving the Pokémon Center alone.
Though dealing with the ghost would be challenging, Kai had made up his mind to capture it.
As a wild Pokémon that had lived for centuries, its abilities were bound to be extraordinary.
Most importantly, it could speak human language just like Team Rocket's Meowth!
Such a Pokémon would be invaluable for better communication with his team, eliminating the need for guesswork.
But where was Gastly now?
It was already 2 a.m., and the night felt darker than ever. Kai surveyed his surroundings and decided to head to Maiden's Statue by the seaside cliffs, hoping to find a clue.
Following the mountain path out of the town, he soon reached his destination.
However, the scene was as empty as before, with only the sound of waves crashing below and the salty breeze filling the air.
"Gastly, are you here?" Kai called out, his voice echoing into the distance. There was no response.
"Not here, huh?" He muttered, stepping closer to Maiden's Rock. "Maybe I should just destroy this Statue and solve the problem!"
"Hey!" A voice snapped behind him. "I can't just ignore a threat like that!"
Kai turned with a sly smile, spotting Gastly hovering in the air.
"Gastly, let's battle!"
"Oh?" Gastly's tone grew serious. "You want to capture me?"
Kai pulled a Poké Ball from his belt and enlarged it. "Of course! I will solve the current problem & get a strong Pokemon with it!"
"Arrogant aren't you?" Gastly Commented with a sly smile
With that, Kai tossed the Poké Ball, and in a flash of red light, his Jolteon appeared. Its sleek fur crackled with electricity as it growled confidently.
"A Jolteon?" Gastly sounded mildly surprised, though more amused than alarmed. "I thought you'd bring out that Zapdos. Against a legendary Pokémon, even I wouldn't stand a chance."
'You think I don't want to? If only I could actually control it!' Kai chuckled.
"Don't worry," he said aloud, crossing his arms. "Even if Jolteon loses, I won't use Zapdos against you." He gave a confident smirk. "Let's cut the chatter and get started! Jolteon, use Thunder Shock!"
Jolteon's fur sparked with electricity, sending a bolt of lightning toward Gastly.
Gastly countered by summoning a swirling black Shadow Ball, which collided with the Thunder Shock midair.
The Shadow Ball's power easily overpowered the Thunder Shock, continuing toward Jolteon.
"Jolteon, dodge!" Kai commanded. "Then use Pin Missile!"
Jolteon leapt nimbly to the side, avoiding the Shadow Ball. The spines on its back bristled like steel needles before launching a barrage of Pin Missiles toward Gastly!
