The door opened suddenly when Dong Xuebing and Xie Jing were talking.
“What are you all talking about?” Xie Huilan entered the room. “What do you mean by getting into trouble?”
Xie Jing replied uneasily. “Nothing, Sis. Why are you here?”
Xie Huilan smiled. “This has always been my room in Senior Xie’s mansion. Can’t I come in?”
“No.” Xie Jing stood up immediately. “Errr…. Sis, Brother-in-law, I will go to bed first.”
Xie Huilan stopped Xie Jing when she walked past her. “Wait. What were you two talking about? Tell me.”
Dong Xuebing gave Xie Huilan a stare. “We are not talking about anything. Let’s go to bed.”
Xie Huilan stared at her younger sister for a while before saying. “Are you asking your Brother-in-law to help Sun Kai get a job and help him in his career? Don’t pretend. I watch you grow up, and I know what you are thinking. I am telling you now. There’s no room for negotiation. Sun Kai is not the right person for you. Your father was only scaring and pressuring him. If you break up with him, your father will help him with his career. You should know although our family members are holding high positions, we are not unreasonable.”
Xie Jing got mad when Xie Huilan mentioned her father. “What do I know? I don’t know anything! He was being unreasonable.” She paused and added. “You are also unreasonable.”
Xie Huilan smiled. “Oh wow, you have grown up. You dare to stare at me now.”
Xie Jing argued. “We are not getting married. Why can’t we date?”
“What’s the point of dating if you two are not getting married?” Xie Huilan replied. “You should know about your status. Since you are born in this family, you should know what lies ahead for you.”
Xie Jing was mad. “I don’t know! Our family also opposed you and Brother-in-law initially. How come you can and I can’t? You are just being unreasonable!”
Xie Huilan held Xie Jing’s hand. “Our situation is different.”
“How is it different? It’s the same to me.” Xie Jing argued.
“You want to insist?!” Xie Huilan looked at her. “When Xiao Bing and I were dating, we did face objections from our family. But how did Xiao Bing handle it? He argued with our grandfather and scolded him in his face. That’s when our family elders accepted him. They felt he had a fighting spirit and was fearless. Can Sun Kai do the same?”
Xie Jing replied stubbornly. “Yes!”
Dong Xuebing smacked his lips. “Huilan, what are you talking about?”
“What did I say? Huh?” Xie Huilan narrowed her eyes.
Dong Xuebing replied. “I find Xiao Sun to be a nice guy, and that’s a plus point.”
Xie Jing finally found someone siding with her. She moved beside Dong Xuebing and held his arm. “Brother-in-law, you treat me better.”
Xie Huilan looked at Dong Xuebing. “Stop making things worse.”
Dong Xuebing patted Xie Jing’s back when he saw she would cry again. He turned to Xie Huilan. “You are making things worse now. Xiao Jing and Sun Kai were getting along fine, and you insisted on breaking them up. What did Sun Kai do? He even got fired for no reason. Do you remember when you courted me? Your family also disapproves of our relationship. You also fought with them. Put yourself in Xie Jing’s shoes. What would you do if your family insisted we break up?”
Xie Huilan narrowed her eyes and smiled. “Let me correct you. You are the one who courted me.”
Dong Xuebing retorted. “You should know who courted who. Hmph.”
“Oh, are you looking for a fight?” Xie Huilan looked at Dong Xuebing. “Fine. Let’s debate.”
“Alright. No matter how we debate, you can’t change the fact that you courted me.”
Xie Jing quickly stops them. “Sis, Brother-in-law, stop fighting. You are making me feel bad.”
Dong Xuebing looked at his wife. “Look at Xiao Jing. Her eyes are swollen from crying. Don’t you care for her? I am telling you this, Huilan. I will help no matter what you say. I am not afraid of offending anyone.” He turned to Xie Jing. “Xiao Jing, leave this to me. I will help Sun Kai get a job.”
Xie Jing’s eyes turned red. “Brother-in-law, you are so nice to me.”
Xie Huilan shook her head. “Just do as you like. Don’t look for me if anyone in our family goes after you.”
Dong Xuebing rolled his eyes. “Don’t worry. I will take responsibility for what I do.”
Xie Jing sniffled. “Sorry, Brother-in-law. I caused trouble for you.”
“It’s fine.” Dong Xuebing thought for a while and said. “But remember this. Your parents and Sister are doing this because they care for you.”
Xie Jing nodded. “I know.”
Dong Xuebing nodded. “Don’t make your parents angry anymore. Huilan is right. They are only scaring you and Sun Kai and will not push him over the edge. I am helping you because I don’t want to see you upset. There are nicer men around, and I know you will not listen. Move on if you meet a better man. It’s normal to date, but marriage is forever. Think carefully and don’t rush.”
Xie Huilan smiled. “That’s more like it.”
“I will remember. Thank you, Brother-in-law.” Xie Jing said.
Xie Jing felt better after Dong Xuebing said he would help Sun Kai, and she left.
Dong Xuebing would not interfere with Xie Jing’s family affairs or help her be together with Sun Kai. However, Xie Jing begged him to help, and he could not refuse her.
Dong Xuebing said. “Huilan, it’s late. Let’s sleep.”
“You will sleep on the sofa tonight.” Xie Huilan lie on the bed. “You made me angry earlier.”
“Stop being so petty.”
“Haha…. I am so petty.”
“Hurry, move over. I am tired.”
“Then tell me. Who courted who?”
“Huh? Fine. I courted you. Are you happy now?”
“Yes. That’s more like it. Haha…. Come over and hug me.”
