“Zhan Qipei, unlock the door.”
Zhan Qipei pursed his thin lips, his tense facial profile relaxing only when he was alone with Qiao Jing.
“A bodyguard will take her.”
His original intention when he told Zhan Nanqing to go back on her own was for a bodyguard to drive her home.
Qiao Jing looked up into the rearview mirror in the car and only felt relieved when she saw Zhan Nanqing climb into another car with the bodyguard.
She took off the wig and glasses, placing them beside her, and closed her eyes to rub her temples.

She had planned to tidy them up and then return the items to Zhan Nanqing, but this man had secretly moved them to the back seat while she wasn’t paying attention.

“You mean to say they grew legs and ran to the back themselves?”

Qiao Jing couldn’t be bothered to deal with Zhan Qipei and went back to the downstairs of their home to wait, taking the two items and putting them in a bag.
Once at home, Qiao Jing quickly changed into a loose set of pajamas and lay down on her bed.
She had just prepared to switch the light to a nightlight when, suddenly, everything went dark before her eyes.
Then, the brightly lit residential area outside the bay window also followed suit and dimmed, plunging into darkness.
Qiao Jing was startled and picked up her phone from the table.
The situation was likely a sudden power outage, otherwise, the community group chat would have sent a notification in advance.
She opened the group chat and sure enough, saw a message from the property management.
“Dear residents, there has been a sudden short circuit in the community’s electrical system. We are working urgently to resolve it, please remain calm.”
After reading the message, Qiao Jing was about to turn on her phone’s flashlight to go look for candles when suddenly a shadow appeared in front of her.
On guard, Qiao Jing immediately turned on her phone’s flashlight.
Zhan Qipei squinted through the sudden bright light, shielding his eyes with his hand.
“There’s a power outage, be careful. I came over to look after you.”
When he heard about the outage, he was overjoyed inside, feeling it was a godsend.
Last time, he had deliberately arranged for the power outage, but now fate had given him another opportunity, and he had already planned out tonight’s actions.

She opened her eyes and, using the moonlight spilling in through the window, could just barely make out a dark figure standing by the bed.
If she hadn’t known in advance that it was Zhan Qipei, she might have been startled.
“Zhan Qipei? Why haven’t you left yet?”
Zhan Qipei came directly to the side of the bed, sitting down beside Qiao Jing with a muffled voice.
“I’m here to keep you company.”
Qiao Jing pushed Zhan Qipei slightly, her lips parting slightly.
“Why keep me company? It’s just a power outage. I’m not scared.”
It was just a bit dark, and the property management had already mentioned that repairs were underway.
At least, none of the people she knew were afraid of the dark.
Just as Qiao Jing was thinking this, the next thing Zhan Qipei said made her face contradict her thoughts.
