George looked closely and found that the branch his master had thrown had accurately struck a gray hare.
The hare struggled a few times and then soon stopped moving.
This scene left George so astonished that he was gaping in silence.
Just a moment ago, he had found it strange, not knowing why his master was picking up branches.
It turned out that the branch was meant for hitting hares!
Moreover, his master’s aim was too accurate, hitting it with just a casual throw!
While George was extremely amazed, Qiao Jing had already picked the hare back up.
She pulled out the branch, handed the hare to George, "Hold it by its two ears for now. I’ll catch another one, then we can call it a day and head back to roast the hares."
Hearing this, George felt like he could already smell the roasted hare, making him almost drool.
He nodded repeatedly, then followed Qiao Jing’s instructions to hold the hare in his hand, unable to stop himself from exclaiming, "Master, you’re truly incredible!"
His admiration for his master was beyond any words.
Honestly, he was just short of throwing himself to the ground in awe!
Qiao Jing gave a slight smile and then spoke, "Catching a hare is nothing. If there were wild boars on this island, I’d prefer to take down a wild boar right away. That way, we wouldn’t have to worry about our meals for the next few days."
Such a statement sounded a bit wild, as wild boars and hares weren’t at all on the same level.
But coming from Qiao Jing, George didn’t doubt it for a second.
He felt that if it were his master taking action, not just wild boars, but even jackals, tigers, or leopards would be easy prey!
As Qiao Jing spoke, she kept an inconspicuous watch on the surroundings, looking for the next prey.
It happened so quickly that before George could react, Qiao Jing had already successfully caught the second hare.
She picked up the struck hare and told George, "Alright, let’s head back to the cave and roast these hares."
After saying this, she took the lead, walking towards the direction of the cave.
George hurriedly followed her.
Soon, the two returned to the cave.
"Master, what do we do next?" George asked, holding the hare and looking around, a bit clueless.
He had eaten roasted meat before and knew how it should be done, but that was with barbecue tools at hand; now with nothing available, this primitive way of barbecuing was truly puzzling to him...
Qiao Jing pursed her red lips slightly and said indifferently, "I give you a task, go pick some drier leaves and smaller twigs."
George responded and, putting down the hare in his hands, ran out.
The island lacked many things, but there was no shortage of branches and leaves.
In less than ten minutes, George returned loaded with them.
When he came back, Qiao Jing had already used the tools left by others in the cave to skin and debone the two hares, cleaned them up, and threaded them onto a branch she had found earlier.
George felt amazed again and, after placing his items on the ground, he asked, "Master, the things you had me collect were for making a fire, right?"
Qiao Jing nodded her head, offered no further explanation, and began demonstrating how to make fire by friction with wood.
A moment later, the fire started, and she placed the skewered meat over the flames.
As the sizzling sound began, the aroma of the roasting meat gradually filled the air.
"This is just too delicious!" George unconsciously swallowed.
"Although it smells good, without some seasonings, it would taste bland," Qiao Jing said as she took out the herbs she had picked earlier, tearing them into the size of green onions, and sprinkled them over the roasted rabbit.
Then, she handed a large portion of the rabbit to George with a gentle smile, "There, now it’s ready to eat."
Eagerly, George took a big bite as soon as he received it.
He didn’t know how to describe the taste.
It was fresh, tender, and delicious!
"How is it? Not bad, right?" Qiao Jing casually asked.
George’s mouth was stuffed full with rabbit meat, making his words muffled, "It’s...it’s amazing!"
He had seen documentaries about wilderness survival before and thought those survival experts were very impressive.
But now, he suddenly felt that those people were nothing compared to his master!
Also, when he initially arrived on this deserted island, he was very nervous, afraid that he might starve to death in this barren place.
Now he was not worried at all because he believed that as long as he was with his master, even if they stayed on the island for a lifetime, they could live very well!
Qiao Jing didn’t know George had thought so much. After eating her fill, she began to repair the communications equipment.
George watched silently by the side, initially intending to steal some skills, but sadly he realized he couldn’t understand any of it...
As evening approached, the sky slowly darkened, and the cave became dim as well.
Thinking it over, George suggested, "Master, why don’t we rest first and continue in the morning? It’s too dark now; don’t strain your eyes."
"Alright," Qiao Jing patted her stomach and put down her tools.
Then, each found a spot along the wall to rest.
The next day, dawn was just breaking.
A joyful voice suddenly rang out in the cave, "Yes, finally done!"
Qiao Jing raised her hand, wiping the fine sweat from her forehead, her face beaming with a knowing smile.
Hearing the noise, George, who was still in the midst of sleep, slowly woke up.
As he opened his eyes, he saw a rare excitement on Qiao Jing’s face.
He rubbed his eyes and, curious, moved closer, "Master, why are you up so early? What happened?"
Qiao Jing lifted the cellphone in her palm and pointed to the communications equipment in front of her, smiling, "We can contact the outside world now."
George was momentarily stunned, the remnants of sleep vanished instantly, "Master, do you mean the signal-emitting device has been repaired?"
Qiao Jing nodded her head and began to adjust the signal as she spoke.
This news filled George with both surprise and excitement.
He looked at Qiao Jing with even more admiration, "Master, let me say it again, you are really amazing!"
"I thought it would take ten days or half a month to fix, but you managed it in less than two days!"
Qiao Jing shook her head with a somewhat emotional tone, "Two days isn’t short, after all, I haven’t worked on this kind of thing for a long time, so my skills have regressed."
"If it were back when I was still proficient, it probably wouldn’t have taken a day to finish."
After saying this and seeing George staring at her dumbfounded, Qiao Jing added another sentence, "Just to clarify, I am not boasting at Versailles, I am merely stating a fact."
