While Hector himself caused some pretty traumatic experiences for those three poor souls, Sophia herself was still struggling with the whole situation, as she was on the way to the NSBI headquarters to meet Benjamin.
"Are you sure about this, Miss?" Her driver asked, as even his men were kind of stressed and worried about the whole thing.
Like out of nowhere, they were on the way to their enemies with documents in Sophia's hands, full of information about people they had made so much effort to track… and on the other hand, it was pure evidence against them.
They had killed, tortured, bribed, and blackmailed people to get the information. Literally dozens of people were shot and thrown into bins or just left on the streets, and now they were going to the NSBI with all of this… what if it was all just a trick?
"They are with James… which means they can do nothing against us." Sophia said, drumming her fingers on her knees.
"I understand that, Miss, but still, it's a bit… crazy, to say the least," the driver continued. "I never in my life thought about just walking into the headquarters of the NSBI… those people, we've killed many, and they've done so much shit against us too."
The same feeling, the same kind of view that Sophia had in her head… which was all true, but the difference between then and now was just too much to even think about.
When those things happened, it was still Odin who led the NSBI, and before him was another man who was very… well, he was led by justice and, of course, the higher-ups.
The NSBI, just like the other agencies, was the private military of the powerful people in the government… if something went wrong, they could have used the agency to release sensitive documents or even kill people… and that's exactly why they killed some of Sophia's men and raided their warehouses.
Everyone knew and still knows just how much information she possesses. She is the empress of the underworld, and some people back then were eager to have her on their side, to get their hands on all the knowledge she held… but she never agreed, not once, nor did she ever even consider it. People died, warehouses got raided, drugs got burned, while on the other side, Sophia did her own thing too.
She killed many NSBI agents, started to release sensitive information and sell it on the black market, even released a tape of an orgy that multiple NSBI higher-ups attended.
And the funniest thing about it was that, even though they fucked each other over every single time… they still sat down with each other, and then again, the cycle started, killing each other, then sitting down, killing each other, then sitting down… until Odin said enough.
After that there was no more talk nah, they just straight up started killing each other though it never made into the news, people never even heard about it, because it was everything but official. It was those powerful people plays to get Sophia somehow in their circle and with her they could have concrete their position even more, but never worked.
That's exactly why Sophia and everyone in her family shared the same worry, but there was nothing to fear, because the person who took over the NSBI is everything but what they had imagined in their heads.
Benjamin the dick sucking one, Benjamin the Bellini, Benjamin the retarded director who only got the job because he was the only one that actually wanted it… yeah well there are some good nicknames to him, but there is nothing to fear.
But there was one more thing to it… there are some agents who are still at the NSBI who were involved in the operation against Sophia… actually there are a lot of them and in her head that is the biggest threat to them.
She ain't dumb, she knows if they hold gratitude against her as well as she knows they can act without even the NSBI because there are still those people with power in the government who wanted her to join… and those people could pretty well order these men against her…
Power is everything and to keep that power they would do anything… though she had a shield.
Shield that is a man… a man who name is James Bellini… and if she dies by the NSBI or whoever the fuck was it would need to do with his wrath and that would be the worst they can experience… at least she thought that.
"I don't really want to use James' name in an ill way… but we can do it only with him, and we need to use his name if we get in sticky situations" She said as looked down at the documents. "At the moment my love is the only person who can protect us… we stepped into a game that is just too much for us."
A very good point, one she realized sooner than she had expected… that what she had just become a part of was more than what Hector had told her. James was no longer just a gangster, he was something far greater… something she couldn't name, something she couldn't fully comprehend… yet she understood one crucial thing about it.
It was more than the mafia, more than giving hope to people. It was no longer just an era, James himself is the era.
That is the man she loves. That is the man she knows she can never truly have, never even touch, never even get close to… No, nobody could ever get close to him.
