"Nice to meet you, President Qin."
"Hi." Qin Chu faintly nodded in response.
They didn’t speak much on their way back to Jiang Xiaowei’s home.
"Go home, I’ll call you later." Jiang Xiaowei pinched Huo Mian’s face before heading into her house.
"Since when did you guys become friends?"
Qin Chu slowly asked her on their way home...
"Um... not too long ago. I met her because I was trying to treat Ni Yang’s depression. She’s a renowned psychiatrist."
"I know."
"You know her?" Huo Mian was surprised.
"I don’t know her, but I know of her. You know she’s getting engaged soon, right?" Qin Chu suddenly added.
"How in the world do you know about this?" Huo Mian was in disbelief – her husband sure knew everything.
"Because the man she’s about to get engaged to is Gao Ran’s cousin."
"What?" Huo Mian was confused.
"Gao Ran’s aunt’s son. He’s in the environmental sector and is a really smart man. Gao Ran just complained to me yesterday that his cousin was about to quickly get engaged to a really pretty and rich girl."
"What a coincidence... I see." Huo Mian understood.
"Jiang Xiaowei is a low-key socialite who hasn’t been involved in any scandals... She’s really eccentric, so there must be something she admires about you if she wants to be friends with you," Qin Chu analyzed.
Huo Mian smiled embarrassedly. "She said that we’re alike, both have weird tempers and doesn’t like to play by the rules. Ni Yang’s depression was hard to cure, but I thought outside of the box and tried something else while her hypnotherapy attempt failed. Maybe that’s why she wants to be friends with me."
"Yeah." Qin Chu nodded and didn’t say much else.
When they got home, Huo Mian couldn’t help but sneeze three times in a row...
Heartbroken, Qin Chu placed a thin blanket on her.
"You went out in such a hurry and didn’t even put on a jacket. I think you might’ve caught a cold."
"Yeah, it’s so cold." Huo Mian hugged the blanket and sat down on the couch.
Qin Chu quietly went into the kitchen...
A few minutes later, he came out with a bowl of brown sugar ginger water.
"Drink it while it’s hot, it’ll warm up your body."
"Thanks, Honey." Huo Mian smiled happily and began slowly sipping on it.
Qin Chu was arrogant, indifferent, and didn’t care about anything. But when he was with Huo Mian, he would give her all the love and gentleness in the world.
He was willing to wait for her in the car for an hour...
He calmly decided to trust her when he heard that Su Yu went looking for her.
He didn’t say anything when she asked him to follow Jiang Xiaowei’s cab.
He went into the kitchen to make her brown sugar water when he realized that she might’ve caught a cold.
He always did as much as he could for her... just because he didn’t want her to endure any grievances.
- The next morning -
They each went off to work, and Huo Mian sent Jiang Xiaowei a WeChat message.
However, she didn’t reply until much later.
At noon, Jiang Xiaowei replied her via WeChat voice message, "I think I drank too much, and don’t remember anything from last night."
"Haha, then what do you remember?"
"I only remember that you came looking for me, but I don’t remember how I got home." Jiang Xiaowei placed a hand on her head. What a hangover.
"Don’t you remember the bet you made with Wei Liao?"
"Who’s Wei Liao?" Jiang Xiaowei had no idea who Huo Mian was talking about.
Huo Mian was speechless; if Wei Liao found out, he would cry his heart out. Thanks to her, Wei Liao threw up and was forced to run around half-naked.
However, Jiang Xiaowei didn’t even remember that he existed.
"Haha, forget it, talk to you later, I need to go to work now."
"Sounds good."
After Huo Mian finished with work and was about to head to the cafeteria for lunch, she saw Wei Liao outside her office.
To her surprise, Wei Liao wasn’t with Su Yu; he was here alone...
"Huo Mian, I bought you some lunch." Wei Liao smiled as he passed her a food container.
"Um... are we close?" Huo Mian wasn’t even remotely connected to Wei Liao. Su Yu bringing her lunch was understandable, but Wei Liao bringing her lunch? What’s going on?
"Li Ji’s crab-roe buns are really good, eat it while it’s hot."
"First, tell me what you want from me. Then, I’ll decide if I want to eat this." Huo Mian knew more than anyone that there was no such thing as a free lunch. Even Mr. Qin occasionally tried to dupe her.
