Qin Chu lifted his head and listened quietly...
"Your mother, what a character, forget her coming to my house to make a fuss, I’ve already gotten used to that. It’s not the first or second time she’s done this. But please, please do not let her speak of Mian that way in front of all the neighbors. She’s rubbing salt into Mian’s wound . Yes, Mian is strong, but when it comes down to it, she’s still a young woman. Your mother’s words are very upsetting; they cut deeply like a knife."
"Auntie, what did my mom say to Mian?"
Qin Chu looked at Yang Meirong and asked...
"Mom, let the past stay in the past. Why are you bringing her up?" asked Huo Mian. She didn’t want her mother to bring it up because she didn’t want to leave Qin Chu in an awkward position. Regardless of what Mrs. Qin said, she was still Qin Chu’s mother. The truth would only bring misery to an additional person.
"Why not? It’s fine if she’s just giving me a hard time. You’re still young, are you going to let her treat you like this forever?"
Yang Meirong then paused and looked at Qin Chu. "Your mom said that Mian is a chicken that can’t lay eggs. She said that if Mian can’t give birth to a baby, she should get the hell out of your family, because the Qin Family would not allow for a daughter-in-law that can’t give birth."
Qin Chu’s eyes darkened as Yang Meirong finished speaking...
These words even cut into his heart and upsetted him; imagine how Huo Mian felt. What did she mean by ’a chicken that can’t lay eggs’? It was nothing more than an attempt to completely humiliate Huo Mian.
"Why didn’t you mention any of this to me?" Qin Chu asked Huo Mian as his heart throbbed.
"It would only make you miserable. It’s fine, I’m not taking it to heart," Huo Mian answered quietly as she ate.
Yang Meirong put down her bowl and slapped the table, saying with agitation, "Qin Chu, look at what your mother is saying. Should a mother-in-law really speak to her daughter-in-law like that? Mian is anxious too when it comes to conceiving. You’re not going to like what I’m going to say, but it’s not accurate to say it’s all Mian’s fault that she’s not pregnant yet. God knows what’s going on, it could be your problem too, right? This is a matter between the both of you, you can’t just let Mian take the blame."
"Mom!" Huo Mian stared at her mother awkwardly.
"Mom, you’re going over the line a little..." Jing Zhixin kindly reminded her.
Qin Chu, on the other hand, nodded in sincerity and said, " Auntie, you have a point."
"Exactly. So, I suggest you two go for a checkup when you have the time. Whoever is having issues can go and get treatments. This way, your mother will have nothing on us, and she won’t be able to come and pick a fight."
"I understand." Qin Chu nodded.
In the face of Yang Meirong’s accusations, Qin Chu accepted them all with an open-mind. He was not the least bit angry.
After the meal, the two of them drove back to South Hill Manor. It was a short drive.
In the car, Qin Chu had one hand on the steering wheel while his other hand grasped Huo Mian’s hand firmly.
"Mian, I’m sorry about what happened today."
"It’s fine. I was rather vicious fighting against your mom too. It was unfortunate that she fell in the end though, is she okay?"
"She’s fine, just a little bruising. She’s resting in the hospital."
"I hope she doesn’t come to find us anymore after we move. Nothing good ever happens when she comes. If no one likes each other, then we might as well avoid contact, I think." Huo Mian mumbled quietly.
"I will have my mother accept you, and not the other way around," Qin Chu said with determination.
Huo Mian was rather good at bickering, but because of Qin Chu, she didn’t want to go all out on Mrs. Qin. However, Mrs. Qin always took advantage of her elderly status and continued to bully Huo Mian, thinking that she was easy to pick on.
Qin Chu knew all of this. His heart throbbed as he imagined how hard things were for his wife.
Huo Mian felt a little touched after hearing what Qin Chu said...

As Huo Mian was in the shower, Qin Chu’s phone lit up with a call coming from Zhixin...
Qin Chu picked up the phone.
"Hey, Brother-in-Law, are you able to talk right now?"
