"Tell me." Jiang Xiaowei nodded.
Huo Mian reached into her bag and placed the phone on the table.
"Pfff... that’s such an old model, don’t tell me it’s your phone." Jiang Xiaowei was flabbergasted by the old Nokia cellphone placed before her; she hadn’t seen this model on the market for years.
"No, it’s an old friend’s... He’s not alive anymore, but it seems like there are some clues in his cellphone. The phone is off right now, I think it’s broken. Do you know anyone who can help me find out the call history on this phone?"
"Call history? Take the sim card and go to the provider." Jiang Xiaowei was startled.
Huo Mian shook her head. "There’s no sim card, I didn’t see one when I got the phone."
"There isn’t a sim card?" Jiang Xiaowei was confused.
Huo Mian knew that things wouldn’t be easy; the disappearance of the sim card couldn’t have been a coincidence.
That’s why she wanted to know who Uncle Jing came into contact with before he died.
"So... can you help me? Do you know a software expert or something?" Huo Mian was hopeful.
Jiang Xiaowei picked up the phone and looked at it. "I can try, there’s a software expert at the municipal bureau, and we’re pretty close. I’ll take it to him later."
"Great, thanks for everything."
"What are you thanking me for? You’re always helping me out too." Jiang Xiaowei smiled.
"How have you been doing? Any morning sickness of the sort?"
"Nope... everything’s been good. I’ve been eating like I used to, and I haven’t been sick or anything."
"That’s good, you don’t have to go through the agony of morning sickness."
"The wedding’s on January 1... remember to come!"
"That’s for sure."
"Oh, right, are you coming to Su Yu’s birthday party next week?" Jiang Xiaowei suddenly asked.
"I’m not sure yet, we’ll see."
The truth was, Huo Mian wanted to go quietly, without anyone knowing. Qin Chu was right; the two of them were special people, so she couldn’t be that flashy with her appearance.
That’s why she didn’t tell Jiang Xiaowei.
"Yeah, that’s maybe for the best... After all, you’re GK’s Young Madam, it’ll be bad if you’re photographed... It’s okay if you don’t, but Su Yu will probably be really disappointed... Wei Liao said that he’s changed quite a bit, and he’s barely involved with any rumors anymore. He spends most of his time working at his company, I think he’s mended his ways, it’s all thanks to you."
"What does that have to do with me? Doesn’t it mean that he’s a good person to begin with?" Huo Mian replied.
"You’re right... Su Yu’s a really messed up person... He used to be a big-time playboy, but he’s not a bad person. In the beginning, I thought he was screwing around with Jian Tong, but later I realized that it was just media hype. Su Yu isn’t like that anymore."
"That has nothing to do with me... I’ve never paid much attention to him."
Huo Mian was aware of her status, so she’s been avoiding interaction with Su Yu.
She treasured her relationship with Qin Chu, so she kept telling herself to be logical and to not make any rash decisions.
"That’s why I like you so much... You’re so resolute, and your life is either black or white... You don’t hover in the grey area. You like Qin Chu, so you were willing to do anything to marry him. You don’t like Su Yu, so you rejected him rather than give him hope. You didn’t keep him on a leash to show off your charisma. Therefore, Huo Mian, I admire you... You’re domineering and a big show-off."
After Jiang Xiaowei finished her rant, they both started laughing...
That night, when Huo Mian and Qin Chu were having dinner at Sky Blessing Court with her mother, Huo Zhenghai surprised them with their arrival...
"Why are you here?" Huo Mian wasn’t friendly upon seeing him.
"Mian, don’t misunderstand me, I didn’t investigate you guys. I went to your old house, but I heard the neighbors say that you guys moved to Sky Blessing Court, so I thought I’d come and visit." Huo Zhenghai began pretending to be the fatherly figure again.
"Mr. Huo, you must be busy at home, why would you have time to come see us?" Huo Mian’s words were filled with needles.
Huo Zhenghai felt awkward...
