Lily Turner thought Easton Holmes had finally come around to call her, but when she took the phone out of her bag, she realized she was wrong. The call was from Freya Yeager. She was just about to finish her hot shower and call her back, but Freya had called first.
"Freya! Why did you do this?" She answered the call, and her first words were a displeased question directed at the person on the other end.
On the other end, Freya Yeager seemed taken aback by Lily Turner's furious attitude. It took her a while before she finally spoke, "Lily! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to do it."
"Didn't mean to do it?" Lily laughed coolly, "Ha! Freya! Don't tell me you were forced by Henry Thompson; he can't possibly force you."
Freya Yeager wasn't the kind of person who could be easily manipulated, nor was she someone who feared authority. Lily Turner was very clear about this after having been around Freya for so long; she had seen Freya stand up to authority more than once.
Freya could hear the displeasure and anger in Lily Turner's voice. She anticipated Lily's reaction when she handed over that spiked drink, and it didn't surprise her in the least. What she felt now was guilt and worry.
"Lily! I know you're very angry right now, but you have to trust me; I did it without any malice, I just..."
"You just what? Freya! You knew perfectly well that Henry Thompson was cheating on me with my best friend, yet you still drugged me. What on earth did Henry give you in return?"
Freya wanted to explain, but Lily didn't give her the chance to finish and angrily interrupted. Lily couldn't understand Freya's actions at all. She had clearly explained Henry Thompson and Jenny York's affair to her, which made Freya's actions even more incomprehensible.
Upon hearing Lily's interrogation, Freya immediately defended herself, "Lily! I swear to you, I absolutely haven't received any benefits from Mr. Thompson."
"Then why did you do it?" Lily was more puzzled than angry now. All she wanted was to clear up this matter, completely ignoring her own wet clothes.
"I did it entirely on the boss's orders." Freya hesitated for a moment but eventually told the truth, "How are things between you and Mr. Thompson now?"
Upon hearing that it was the boss's idea, Lily was already very clear about what was going on. The boss was using her to make money.
"I'm sorry! I've disappointed you all."
Lily turned up the corners of her lips bitterly, removed the phone from her ear, and didn't care what the person on the other end was saying. Her slender fingers swiped across the phone screen, ending the call.
The air conditioner had been on all night, and now the room temperature was very low. Lily was soaking wet, and her lips had turned blue from the cold, her body shivering uncontrollably. Yet the chill in her body couldn't match the cold in her heart, which shrank into a tight ball.
So cold!
Lily casually tossed the phone onto the sofa and ran into the bathroom. She urgently needed a hot bath; otherwise, she would get sick.
She stripped off all her wet clothes, stepped into the bathtub, adjusted the hot water, and began to soak.
