Lily Turner remembers that Easton Holmes once said when Michael Linton recognized her, it was because she looked like Daxton Taylor, saying their eyes were particularly similar.
But how similar were their eyes really? She couldn’t see what was so special about her eyes, so why could her uncle notice the features?
"Your eyes are very much like your father’s."
Easton Holmes glanced at Lily Turner, realizing only then that she was sitting up straight, just like a diligent student attentively listening to a teacher.
From the beginning, Easton Holmes noticed that Lily Turner’s eyes were like those of Ryan Taylor and his sister, but at that time he merely thought it was a coincidence, never imagining she was related to the Taylor Family and had an indirect blood relation with them.
Lily leaned in closer to the rearview mirror to scrutinize her eyes. She looked for a long time but didn’t see anything notable, eventually giving up and returning to her seat.
Easton Holmes offered no comment on her actions. From the moment Lily started looking into the rearview mirror to when she settled back in her seat, he remained silent, quietly focusing on driving.
Lily also fell silent, and the car was engulfed in an uncommon silence that persisted until they reached the cemetery parking lot.
Out of respect for the deceased, cars were not allowed inside the cemetery, and those wishing to pay their respects had to walk in.
After parking the car, Easton and Lily got out, retrieving the flowers from the trunk, and stood aside waiting for Sophia Wood, who was still parking.
Sophia Wood parked her car, holding a bouquet of flowers as she joined the other two, and together they walked into the cemetery.
Lily walked over, linking arms with Sophia. Without speaking, she silently looked at her mother, her beautiful face etched with worry and her eyes filled with concern.
Sophia seemed to feel Lily’s gaze and slowly turned to look at her daughter, their eyes meeting unexpectedly.
Seeing the concern and worry in her daughter’s eyes, she raised her other hand, gently patting the hand that was linked with hers, silently reassuring her daughter that she was fine.
The silent interaction between mother and daughter was observed by Easton standing nearby, but he said nothing, just quietly watching them.
"Mom! Lily! This way!"
At the fork in the path, Easton raised a hand to guide the mother and daughter.
Hearing Easton’s call of "Mom," Sophia Wood was visibly startled, looking deeply at him before following the path he indicated alongside Lily Turner.
When Easton had just addressed Sophia as "Mom," Lily also heard it, and as she passed by him, she turned to glance at him.
He could understand the meaning in her gaze, and returned it with a similar one.
After they walked down a path lined with bluestone slabs, they arrived in front of a gravestone.
Before Easton could say this was Daxton Taylor’s grave, Sophia Wood had already spotted the photograph on the gravestone.
Despite twenty-three years having passed, she instantly recognized the person in the photograph as Daxton Taylor.
Lily’s eyes first caught the name "Daxton Taylor" on the gravestone, and only then did she look up to see the photograph.
Seeing her biological father for the first time, even if only in a photograph, she felt a surge of emotion and reached out to touch the image.
"Don’t touch!"
A stern voice suddenly erupted, causing Lily’s hand to freeze in mid-air.
