Easton Holmes moved the hand blocking his view and stared at Lily Turner for a moment. He sighed softly and spoke indulgently, "Whatever you say, goes. After all, you’re my wife."
With that, he pinched her cheek and pulled her toward the door before she could react and strike back.
Lily didn’t retaliate, not even with a single word. Normally, she would have. If not with her hands, then with words. But this time she had to restrain herself.
Her mom and sister were still waiting for her to go back and talk. She couldn’t provoke him into a tantrum again, or she’d be the one regretting it.
Without any sound from beside her for a while, Easton furrowed his brow in confusion and turned to look at the woman next to him.
That’s when he saw Lily with her head down, silent, pondering over something as she stared at the floor.
"Honey! Is the floor that interesting?"
Suddenly, a man’s voice came from beside her, and Lily quickly collected her thoughts, lifted her head, and shifted her gaze from the floor to him. "Compared to you, the floor is much less attractive."
The implication of his earlier words was clear: A handsome guy like me is standing right here, and you’re looking at the floor instead? I’m not happy about that.
She gleaned his subtext on her own, and she knew whether she was right by observing his expression.
"Honey! You actually compared me to the flo—"
"Darling! You should go back now, and we’ll meet tomorrow."
The expression on Easton’s face became less pleasant, and Lily internally shouted bad timing for her judgment error.
In this tense moment, she suddenly realized they had already unknowingly reached the door. She opened it while interrupting him.
As the door opened, a blast of cold wind hit them.
Lily instinctively shrank her shoulders and blurted out, "So cold!"
Maybe it was too warm inside, so opening the door suddenly made her feel especially cold.
Easton reached out to close the door she just opened. Seeing this, she looked at him in confusion, "What’s wrong?"
You’re not going to change your mind about leaving again, are you?
Lily only dared to voice this thought in her head. Knowing him, if she dared to say it out loud, he really might leave.
"I’m about to go, shouldn’t you at least give me something, hmm?" Although Lily tried her best to hide her thoughts, sharp-eyed Easton noticed. He suddenly moved closer, bringing himself face to face with her at a very close distance.
When the man suddenly approached, Lily instinctively tried to move back, but the man had anticipated her reaction and had already blocked her retreat.
"Give you what?"
His intention was clear, but she pretended not to understand.
This wasn’t their own home where they could do whatever they wanted. If someone inside accidentally saw, she’d want to cover her face and hide.
Easton knew Lily was pretending not to get it, so he moved his mouth even closer to hers, inching nearer.
At this point, their faces were almost touching, their breaths mingling instantly, and her cheeks blushed slightly.
"A goodbye kiss!"
She pretended ignorance about what he meant, but he was much more straightforward, outright asking for a goodbye kiss, demanding it with undeniable authority.
