After Amelia Linton finished dialing the police, she sat on the sofa without moving an inch, holding the phone, waiting for Fabian Holmes to call and hold her accountable.
After about ten minutes, the phone in her hand rang.
She raised it to take a look. As she expected, it was a call from her estranged husband.
Amelia Linton didn’t pick up immediately. Instead, she stared unblinkingly at the phone. Just as it was about to hang up, she slowly answered it.
"Amelia Linton! You’re getting more and more out of line. You even dared to file a fake police report. What exactly are you trying to do?" As soon as she placed the phone to her ear, his angry questioning voice came from the other end.
Amelia wasn’t surprised that Fabian Holmes was so angry. If he didn’t yell at her in anger, that would be surprising.
"Who told you to put me on your blacklist? Claiming you were kidnapped was mild. Believe it or not, next time I’ll say you robbed a bank!" Thinking about how Fabian not only left home but also blacklisted her number, Amelia was extremely angry.
So angry that she didn’t realize reporting a fake police report was illegal, and she even threatened him over the phone that she’d do it again.
Hearing Amelia say that, Fabian was so furious he nearly exploded, shouting directly at the phone: "Divorce! We’re getting a divorce tomorrow!"
At this moment, he had reached his limit of tolerance and didn’t want to endure anymore.
"Divorce then! Do you think I’m afraid to divorce you? Who are you trying to scare?" Hearing Fabian bring up divorce, Amelia instantly got angry, completely forgetting why she called him and yelled back.
The voices of the couple were getting louder and louder, as if they were competing to see who could be the loudest.
"See you at the Civil Affairs Bureau entrance at eight tomorrow morning!" Fabian said angrily and then hung up, not caring about Amelia’s intentions or reactions; he just wanted peace as soon as possible.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
Just after hanging up, Fabian hadn’t even put down the phone when it rang again, assuming it was from Amelia, he didn’t plan to answer.
But recalling her earlier threat, he changed his mind about ignoring it.
He wasn’t afraid of her threats, but he didn’t want to receive any more calls from the police. Getting lectured by police wasn’t a big deal, but losing face was. He couldn’t afford to be embarrassed with her.
Thinking it was Amelia calling, Fabian picked up the phone only to see it wasn’t from her but her brother Michael Linton.
That woman had complained to her brother so quickly?
Fabian frowned unhappily, slid his finger across the screen, and answered the call, "Hello!"
He simply greeted in a dull tone and said nothing more, waiting for his brother-in-law to question him.
"What on earth are you both thinking? I told you two that Easton and Lily are having their wedding on the eighth, but you both didn’t care at all."
"Are you two guests? Do you have to be invited repeatedly before you’d come? You’re worse than guests. Today they specifically came by to offer congratulations, but what about you two?"
"You two have really disappointed me!"
Michael Linton spoke a lot in one breath, not giving the other side any chance to interject.
