Sophia Wood’s reluctance was something any parent who’s married off a daughter could deeply understand. Especially mothers, witnessing such scenes tugged at the heart, let alone experiencing it firsthand.
"Lily getting married today is a happy occasion, don’t be all teary-eyed; if you are, Lily will also feel sad." Christopher Turner reached out to pull Sophia Wood away from Lily Turner, preventing her from rushing over again. He led her away from the doorway.
As Christopher pulled her away, he turned his head to Easton Holmes and said, "Easton! You take Lily away, we’ll join you later."
He held onto her tightly, not giving her a chance to break free from his grasp.
Easton Holmes glanced back at Sophia Wood, then carried Lily Turner out. He deliberately took larger strides to quickly get her to his car.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t carry her, but he felt the dampness on his neck; without looking down, he knew she was crying.
Indeed, Lily Turner was crying uncontrollably; Sophia Wood’s term of endearment earlier deeply struck her heart.
In all her life, it was the first time her mother called her "darling". Whenever she heard other mothers call their kids like that when she was little, she felt deep envy mixed with sadness.
"Honey! Can we stop crying now?"
Seeing the woman in his arms sobbing uncontrollably, Easton Holmes felt incredibly distressed. He bent down, placed her in the car, and finally saw her face covered with tears, "Stop crying, if you keep crying you’ll look ugly."
He wiped her tears with his hand, then bent down to get into the car.
Upon hearing this, Lily Turner blurted out a retort, "Ugly is ugly, anyway you can’t return me now even if you despise me."
She glanced at the man who had just gotten into the car, then shifted slightly toward the other side.
"Heh!"
Luke Crowe opened the car door and got in just in time to hear Lily Turner’s words, and he couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
Easton Holmes reached out and pulled the woman who had distanced herself closer, and with the other hand, he patted the head of the snickering Luke Crowe in front, "What are you laughing about, you think you have nice teeth?"
As he spoke, he tapped Luke’s head again.
"Sister-in-law! Can you please do something about big brother? He’s always bullying me, almost made me dumb, how am I supposed to find a wife in the future?" Luke Crowe rubbed his head where he was patted, turning sideways to look at Lily Turner in the back, seeking help with his eyes.
After listening to Luke Crowe babble for a while, Lily Turner replied without thinking, "Of course you’re going to your mother-in-law to get a wife."
It wasn’t entirely a joke, he would definitely have to go to his mother-in-law for a wife; the only question was where his mother-in-law currently was.
"Haha... yes! Go to your mother-in-law for a wife, my wife isn’t your mother-in-law." As soon as Lily Turner finished speaking, Easton Holmes burst into hearty laughter. How could his wife be so amusing? He really found her more delightful the more he looked at her.
Luke Crowe could tell that his boss was particularly joyous today. He had seen his boss laugh several times today, each time with such genuine pleasure, though this was the first time he had laughed out loud.
Let his boss say whatever he wants, after all, he is happy today.
Luke Crowe didn’t say anything more, merely glanced at the bride and groom, then quietly turned around.
Seeing this, Lily Turner thought Luke Crowe was upset, and quickly leaned forward to explain, "We were just joking with you, don’t be mad."
