"You ungrateful girl! You still know to come back, huh?"
As soon as Lily Turner opened the door and walked into the house, Sophia Wood's discontented words struck her forcefully, causing her great heartache.
Right now, she needed understanding, someone to comfort her, a warm embrace, all of which her mother could have provided.
But she was disappointed. She had been disappointed for many years now, each time her high hopes turned into deep disappointment, yet each time she continued to wait expectantly.
Faced with her mother's angry questioning, Lily chose silence because she knew it was very wrong of her to miss the wedding today, and hiding away only made matters worse.
But she really couldn't face the family and friends who came to the wedding, and she couldn't manage the entertainment reporters like she usually did.
"Mom! Lily must have had something happen; she wouldn't miss the wedding for no reason," Alice Turner got up and walked over to Lily. Even though they were stepsisters, their relationship was very close, like real sisters.
Seeing her sister walking towards her, Lily instinctively quickened her pace, "Sis!"
Right now, she had so many grievances, but she didn't know who to confide in.
Her sister had just gotten married recently, but she wasn't happy; happiness was out of the question. Her brother-in-law didn't love her sister, and her sister didn't have any good impressions of him either; their marriage was purely the result of family pressure.
With her sister in such a situation, she didn't want to add more worries to her sister.
"You finally came back, we were so worried," Alice said as she reached out to pull Lily along into the living room. They sat down not far from their parents.
As soon as they sat down, Sophia started speaking again, full of accusations, "Where were you the whole day today? Why didn't you attend the wedding? Do you know how hurt Henry is?"
Would he be hurt? Even if he was, it must be an act.
Lily smiled bitterly in her heart, but on the outside, she maintained the expressionless look she had when she entered, "I'll handle this matter myself."
She wasn't sure what the situation was with the wedding today, so she'd need to check online later. She believed there must be a lot of information about the wedding online now.
"How will you handle it yourself? Lily Turner! Do you think this is a game?" Sophia angrily patted the empty spot next to her, hitting it so hard her palm turned red, but she didn't care at all.
Before Lily could speak, Alice, sitting beside her, spoke up first, "Mom! Lily must have some unspeakable reason. She's not an irresponsible person."
Alice had been Lily's sister for more than a decade, understanding each other as well as themselves. She knew that Lily wasn't irresponsible or careless.
Alice understood that there had to be something going on for Lily not to come to the wedding venue today, but her sister just didn't want to let them know about it yet.
