Re: Player 2: At the Edge of Two Realities Chapter 20

Chapter 20: [Brothers of Salvation!]

Encerid, or Truthseeker, logged into the game, felt the heaviness of his clothes, the green shawl tugged around his neck, protecting him from the cold. He also wore an enormous hat that protected him from the chilly wind. In his hand, a long staff stood stall, denoting his class as a mage.

Observing the two suns in the sky above, he felt the prickling sunlight. A bad match with the frigid atmosphere, making Encerid cover his head even more with the corners of his hat.

Currently, he was in the northern part of the country, where all the mess was taking place. His eyes looked through the surrounding area, at the Demi-humans walking around, carrying stuff in their hands. Then he shifted his gaze to the few brave humans bracing the winter with their premium furred clothes as they joyfully talked with each other.

I should find a place to stay first. Encerid decided, looking around the marketplace before finding a somewhat closed bookshop. Looking at those books, a glimmer entered his eyes before he moved closer.

From the corner of his eye, he also saw a cafe shop nearby, making a mental note to visit it after collecting some books he might find fascinating.

It was a shabby bookshop with many dusty books kept on the counter. Picking even one of them up would make anyone cough for at least a few minutes, perhaps even more given the weather conditions. Alas, that wasn’t enough for Encerid to not pick a book out of the counter. He chose a book whose name somehow stood out from all the other books present there.

Brothers of Salvation

Encerid, when first entered this mythical world, fell in love with the history of this world. It had a mythology that surpassed any he had seen before. It had Gods, Demons, and existences that challenged them from time to time. Even Gods can be evil. Even Demons can be kind.

The more Encerid searched, the more he fell in love with this game. It was too exciting for him to let go. That’s why he must do everything in his power to find out the reason behind the whole mess that has been created. Or else, he would never be able to play the game, much less satisfy his craving for knowledge of this world.

I hope they find a good solution for the whole thing. He prayed in his heart, hoping the game would continue for a very, very long time. At least, until he has learnt everything this world has to offer.

Taking the book with him, about a group that once fascinated him before, he paid for it at the counter. He tried haggling but failed miserably before paying 10% more than what it was originally, making him sigh before he got out of the shop.

Slightly irritated by the smirk that the old lady showed him in the shop, he moved with heavy steps to the nearby cafe, entering there, finally finding salvation of heat in this unforgiving cold atmosphere.

Is it magic? He thought as he looked around but found no source of any heater within the shop. Then, fascinated with the fantasy he was living in, he chose a quiet corner. Finding a table with two empty chairs, he sat on one of them, comfortably observing the cold city road through the window.

As if melting, the warm chair hugged Encerid’s back, making him relax, before he called up the server and asked for a cup of coffee. It wasn’t needed much since it was just a game, but Encerid wanted to set a comfortable atmosphere. It wasn’t something he could do in the real world after all.

Opening the first page of the book.

Let’s see. Hmmm. Only 4 of the brothers have been mentioned, while the other 3 are still unknown? Adam. Wesker. Neptune. Morpheus. Is it that people don’t know? Or are they trying to hide the information?

Encerid pondered as he began reading the book.

He felt the chills as he read about Mirag Town, how it was about to be sacrificed to the Demigod. Baffled when he read how a single man, Adam, or more famously known as the Phantom, single-handedly saved the entire town by himself.

Isn’t that too exaggerated? He thought as he continued reading, getting even more immersed in it. How Wesker and Morpheus saved the Border Town. How Neptune opened a free clinic that still functions in the coastal city.

The more he read about it, their feats, the more amazed he was to know about them. At the end of the book, there were also a bunch of pictures showing almost real images of Adam, Wesker, Neptune and Morpheus.

A group far stronger than the Gods and the Demons.

A group with an unknown purpose.

It made him smile like an idiot as he finished most of the book in less than 30 minutes. Then, realising that the coffee that he had ordered still had not appeared, he looked away from the book, trying to call for the waiter again.

Though before he could do so, he saw a man sitting opposite him, sipping a cup of coffee that was oddly similar to the one that he had ordered.

But that wasn’t the problem...

Isn’t he?!!

It was because he... the one they called Phantom, was sitting opposite him right now.

Adam Wesker was looking at him with a kind smile... just as the book has always described him.
