Rebirth: A Second chance at life Chapter 62

The next day, Aurora woke up early in the soft light of dawn. She put on her running shoes and stepped outside for her morning jog.

The air was cool and fresh, and she ran along quiet streets, thinking about the day ahead. There was a sense of calm in the morning that helped clear her mind.

After her jog, Aurora returned home, took a quick shower, and went straight to her small lab hidden in the basement.

Today, she had an important task. In her hand was a test report for a blood culture she had done the night before.

She had plenty of time. Her exam wasn’t until 10 a.m., leaving her with the perfect window to immerse herself in her research.

The early morning air was crisp, the world still caught in the quiet lull before the day truly began.

With a focused mind and a determined heart, she planned to use every moment wisely, delving deep into her work.

There was no rush—only the steady rhythm of her thoughts and the quiet hum of determination pushing her forward.

In the lab, Aurora worked quietly, the soft hum of the machines around her. She carefully read through the test results, and soon, her eyes widened in shock.

The report showed many strange anomalies. It turned out that her body had been exposed to several dangerous drugs: Quetiapine, BZ, and Scopolamine.

These drugs were known to cause severe mental distress and hormonal imbalances. In addition, there was another drug present in her blood that caused rapid weight gain.

A cold wave of disbelief washed over her as she scanned the details, her fingers tightening around the edges of the paper.

"Though Luna had already expected this outcome, it was still far beyond her imagination, and she couldn’t help but dwell on the enmity."

From infancy—Aurora had been subjected to these drugs since she was just a helpless child. A concoction designed to weaken, to suppress, to mold her into something fragile and dependent.

It explained why the original Aurora did not remember anything before the age of six. No memory of those early years survived.

At the time she was six, the original Aurora looked no older than a frail four-year-old.

Luna, now sharing Aurora’s body, could feel the cold touch of the past. Every test result and every number on the paper brought back feelings of deep betrayal.

"Luna felt a sharp pang in her chest—not for herself, but for the original host, the girl who had endured so much without ever knowing why.

Or perhaps the sad feeling was the remnants of the original Aurora, unsettled by the truth now laid bare."

Luna knew that someone had deliberately poisoned Aurora’s life with these substances. And a name echoed in her mind—Lily.

Lily, who had once taken the risk to create a fake ID, hiding Aurora from a truth that was too painful to accept. Lily had worked hard to keep Aurora weak, hidden, and controlled.

"Why did Lily hide the original Aurora—and from whom? Piece by piece, the truth was becoming undeniable.

She hadn’t given birth to Aurora; she had taken her from somewhere, altered her age, changed her name, and harbored such intense hatred that she subjected an innocent infant to unspeakable cruelty.

But the question remained—who did Lily hate so fiercely, and why?"

"These were the questions that lingered in Luna’s mind—and she knew, deep down, that only Lily held the answers."

A deep, simmering anger coiled within her. She had seen countless horrors in her past life, but there was something uniquely vile about this.

"Though Luna didn’t want to get involved in this matter—her hands already full with the task of uncovering the one behind the explosion—she couldn’t ignore the pull within her.

At first, she had only planned to remove the so-called mother and sister from the original Aurora’s life—she had no intention of letting such foolish people remain tied to her."

But something deeper stirred inside her, a need to unearth the truth. The original Aurora had given her this body to live in, and Luna would repay her by seeking the truth... and delivering justice."

After two long hours in the lab, Aurora finally printed out the final report.

The silence of the lab was broken only by the steady beep of the machines. Now, the truth was before her, and she had a plan to find the missing pieces of her past.

Leaving the lab, Aurora made her way upstairs to the kitchen. The aroma of fresh breakfast filled the air.

Margaret, the kind housekeeper, was busy in the kitchen preparing a meal. Today, she had made Aurora’s favorite: an English breakfast with poached eggs mixed with Italian seasoning.

The gentle clatter of dishes and the warm scent of food brought a small comfort to Aurora’s troubled mind.

"Good morning, madame," Margaret greeted softly as she placed the dish on the table. "I have prepared your favorite breakfast. Poached eggs, half-stirred with Italian seasoning."

Aurora managed a small smile and thanked her. She sat down and took a bite of the soft, warm egg. The flavor was familiar and exactly to her taste.

The breakfast was simple, yet it held the promise of normalcy in a world full of mysteries.

In the quiet kitchen, Aurora’s mind raced. She remembered faint, broken images of a time when she was a child, dropped off at her grandmother’s house.

The blurry memories came in bits and pieces, each one filled with uncertainty and sadness.

"Luna, now in Aurora’s body, could finally recall fragments of those lost moments. The memories slipped into her mind uninvited, surfacing only after a few days of detoxification."

"Luna, in Aurora’s body, could finally recall slivers of the past—faint, broken moments that clawed their way into her mind after days of detox.

The memories didn’t return gently; they came in flashes, uninvited and jarring, like ghosts slipping through the cracks in her consciousness.

A child’s muffled sobs, the sting of a slap, the cold silence of a room that was never called home—each image hit her with startling clarity before fading just as fast, leaving her breathless.

The medicine was working, slowly purging the toxins from her system, clearing the fog clouding her thoughts.

But with clarity came pain, and with every returning memory, Luna felt a weight settle deeper in her chest.

These weren’t just echoes of another girl’s life—they were wounds. Unhealed. Unanswered. And now, hers to carry."

Aurora finished her breakfast and left the kitchen. With a plan forming in her mind.

She knew that she had to dig deeper into the mystery of her past. Who had given her these drugs? Why had someone gone to such lengths to hide her true identity?

And what was the connection between Lily and the missing memories of the original Aurora?
