"Ophelia, who is that person? Do you know him?" Emerie asked as she drove, glancing in the rearview mirror.
"How would I know him? Such a strange guy." Emerie replied irritably, "Don’t mention him anymore."
"Alright." Ophelia nodded, smiling, "Auntie, you should rest for a bit; we’ll be home soon."
"Hmm." Distracted, Emerie didn’t notice that Ophelia had seen all her frustration and confusion and was thoughtfully pondering.
Sophie Wilson was waiting for the results, and it was already noon. She had just gotten the results and found out that everything was indeed fine, which allowed her to breathe a sigh of relief.
Luckily, everything was okay; otherwise, she would feel bad for that introverted guy.
As she was thinking about the guy, her phone rang. This sense of connection made Sophie involuntarily show a happy smile as she answered the call, "Hello."
"Are you still not done?" Charles Seymour asked.
He estimated that it should be about time; Sophie should be home by now.
Before Sophie could answer, a slightly unclear voice came through the call: "Please XXX go to clinic number three."
Charles’ face immediately darkened, "Where are you?"
These three words, Charles practically growled out through clenched teeth, and the forcefulness didn’t diminish through the phone, scaring Sophie, who shivered and angrily stared at the hospital’s call system.
Sophie opened her mouth, thoughts rapidly swirling around, and considering the consequences of lying, she admitted guiltily, "At the hospital."
"But, I’m fine... I was just helping an aunt to the hospital, I’m..."
"Which hospital?" The chill in his four words interrupted Sophie’s explanation, as Charles didn’t want to hear anything else; he just wanted to see her with his own eyes.
Resigned, Sophie told him the name of the hospital and soon received his concise and strong two words—"Wait."
Then, he hung up the phone decisively.
Sophie anxiously bit her lip, suddenly wondering if she should run.
Thinking of Charles’ dark face, Sophie felt like banging her head against the wall.
Wouldn’t he be enraged?
Holding her phone, Sophie knew he was very, very upset but still sent him a text—"I’m really okay, take your time."
The message was almost instantly replied to with a single word—"Okay."
This simple word conveyed Charles’ determination; he was truly resolute.
Sophie stopped speaking further and sat in the chair to wait.
"Sophie, did the results come out?"
Upon hearing a sound, Sophie looked up, slightly stunned, "Aunt Taylor, why haven’t you left yet?"
"I can’t feel at ease leaving without knowing your results," Clarissa Taylor said, seeing the somewhat lethargic Sophie, becoming suddenly nervous, "Is there something..."
"No, nothing!" Sophie was now afraid anyone would suggest she had a problem, and quickly waved her hand repeatedly, fearing Clarissa wouldn’t believe her and showed her the report.
Clarissa looked over it, confirmed there was no issue, and finally let out a long breath.
The young girl saved her, and if anything had happened to her because of this, Clarissa would feel guilty forever.
"Since everything’s fine, let’s take you home." Clarissa suggested kindly, smiling.
