"It’s okay, Sophie, I believe in you!" Lucy Wells interrupted Sophie Wilson, "This has nothing to do with you, I trust your character."
Sophie Wilson smiled: "Thank you, Lucy."
She hadn’t said anything yet, but Lucy Wells chose to believe her.
This unconditional trust really moved her.
"Things aren’t as Grace Wilson spread, don’t worry, the truth will come out in a few days." Sophie Wilson said, "If someone at the company bullies you..."
After all, Lucy Wells is her good friend, and there’s no guarantee that no one will try to cozy up to Grace Wilson and, failing that, turn to harass Lucy instead.
"Don’t worry, Sophie, someone at the company was gossiping and got scolded by our manager," Lucy Wells said with a smile. "It was the HR manager Catherine Carter, who used to be close to Eva, gossiping with a colleague from headquarters, and the manager overheard."
"The manager directly warned the colleague from headquarters that the company is a place for work, not gossip. Then they called Catherine Carter into the office; she looked upset when she came out."
Lucy Wells wasn’t saying this to gloat.
"Sophie, don’t worry, President Palmer didn’t believe those rumors," Lucy Wells was comforting Sophie Wilson.
"Okay, I understand." Sophie Wilson nodded with a smile and asked, "Is your aunt still causing trouble for you?"
"She came once, but as you suggested, I rented a place for my mom and Grandma to stay outside, so she found no one," Lucy Wells said, feeling grateful. Thankfully, she listened to Sophie back then, or her aunt’s antics could have made her grandma sick.
"Our neighbors are pretty cool, they chased her out," Lucy Wells chuckled quietly. "The TV broadcast last time let the neighbors know the whole story, so nobody believed her nonsense."
"She came for your grandma’s house?" Sophie Wilson didn’t need to think to know what Lucy Wells’ aunt was up to.
Lucy Wells’ second uncle, Leo Wells, sold counterfeit products through his company, and not only is he facing jail time, but he also has to pay fines.
This case is easy to judge, with clear facts and solid evidence.
Lucy Wells’ aunt’s efforts are futile.
Blame can only be placed on Leo Wells for his self-destructive actions.
"Yes, she wants my grandma to sell the house for money," Lucy Wells said mockingly, "She lives comfortably in her own house and hasn’t thought about selling it. Instead, she’s targeting my grandma’s house."
"Isn’t that typical?" Sophie Wilson wasn’t surprised by Leo Wells’ wife’s shamelessness at all. "You should advise your grandma not to get upset."
"Yeah, I know," Lucy Wells said. "Sophie, don’t worry too much about the company. Apart from those few who were close to Eva, no one else at our branch is talking about it."
Sophie Wilson laughed and chatted with Lucy Wells a bit more before hanging up.
Looking at the time, Sophie Wilson decided to head downstairs for dinner herself, to avoid someone having to call her.
Just as she reached the stairway, Sophie Wilson paused, a mischievous smile on her face. She tiptoed to Charles Seymour’s door and knocked gently, asking in a deliberately sweet voice, "Sir, do you need any service?"
The voice was so sugary that even Sophie Wilson felt goosebumps, it was so cloying... kind of nauseating.
With a bang, a loud crash came from inside the room, as if something had fallen.
