"You’re insane!" Emerie trembled all over, desperately trying to distance herself from any association with Stephen. "Get out of my way, I’m leaving!"
"Mrs. Walton, all these years, did you know that I’ve always been waiting for you?" Stephen said in a deep voice, "I fell in love with you the moment I saw you. If it weren’t for this love, do you think I would have just raised a child for you for nothing?"
Stephen’s confession not only failed to move Emerie but made her feel utterly disgusted instead.
"Who wants your love!" Emerie looked at him as if he were a rat in the gutter.

"Since Mrs. Walton has said so, I won’t insist," Stephen said with a forced smile. "How about we discuss the daughter I raised?"
"Who’s going to talk with you? Lunatic!" Emerie disdainfully waved her arms, trying to shoo Stephen away like a fly. "Get out, get out."
"Mrs. Walton, you’d better not push me, otherwise, I don’t know what I might do," Stephen stared at Emerie menacingly. Now that he had nothing, what was there he couldn’t do?
"Wha-what are you going to do?" At this moment, Emerie truly felt fear and asked, stammering.
"Emerie, Emerie?" Someone was anxiously calling in the corridor.
Emerie’s eyes lit up, suddenly bursting with a glimmer of hope: "Benjamin, Benjamin, I’m here!"
Stephen looked at Emerie mockingly. She was almost fifty, yet still so naïve; was it appropriate to let Benjamin know about such things?
"Emerie, what are you doing here?" Benjamin pushed open the balcony door and walked in, casting only a suspicious glance at Stephen without paying much attention.

"Alright." Benjamin nodded.
"Mr. Walton, I think you should hear what I have to say before you leave." Stephen blocked Benjamin’s path, speaking with a fake smile.
"Benjamin, don’t listen to his nonsense!" Emerie said nervously, clutching Benjamin’s arm.
"Mr. Walton, don’t you want to know something about your wife?" Stephen gave Emerie a meaningful glance and asked with a smile.
Benjamin comforted Emerie’s hand, which was tightly gripping his arm, giving it a reassuring pat. "Sir, come find me at the company tomorrow."
With that, Benjamin handed a business card to Stephen.
"Benjamin!" Emerie exclaimed in shock. How could he give this man his business card?
"Don’t worry, I’ll handle it." Benjamin whispered, calming Emerie before asking, "What’s your name, sir?"
"Stephen," Stephen provided his name.
"Alright then, I’ll be waiting for Mr. Wilson at ten o’clock tomorrow morning at the company." With that, Benjamin helped Emerie off the balcony.
