"Eat your food, why so much chatter!" Old Mr. Seymour reprimanded Julian Campbell, then took a generous helping of food for Old Mrs. Seymour. He shot him a sharp glare, couldn’t he see he was interrupting his wife’s meal?
"Oh." Julian responded dejectedly, feeling that his rank in the family hierarchy had once again slipped down a notch.
In fact, he wasn’t really upset. He was used to being at the bottom, and whether he dropped further or not, he was still at the bottom, so it didn’t make much difference.
"Aunt Sophie, the premiere date for our show is set." Julian could only switch to a topic that wouldn’t dampen his spirits.
"So soon?" Sophie Wilson looked at Julian in surprise. They’d just finished filming a few months ago; it felt like she’d only been lazing around at home briefly.
"Of course, it’s fast." Julian said with a cheerful smile. "I was originally cast as the lead male role, but now they’ve got Edward Sherwood as the lead, with the script by Benjamin Smith. "The later parts were edited together in overtime work, and I’ve heard it sold for a good price." Julian shrugged after saying this, "However, how much it sold for has nothing to do with us. Aunt Sophie, be my date for the premiere... okay... Granny, Uncle Charles is bullying me!"
Julian hadn’t even finished speaking when he felt the cold, murderous gaze from his Uncle Charles, which sent a shiver down his spine, prompting him to quickly seek powerful allies for his rescue.
"Charles, don’t scare him." Old Mrs. Seymour urged, "I’m still sitting here."
"Exactly, exactly, I have Grandma’s protection." Julian felt invigorated with his backer stepping in. He began to swagger, shaking his head goofily at Charles Seymour.
Old Mrs. Seymour, seeing Julian , was both amused and helpless, nodding along to his words, "warning" Charles Seymour, "You’re not allowed to lay a hand on him in my presence. When I’m not watching... well, then I can’t control it."
Julian’s playful wobbling abruptly froze, forming a comical pose. His smile stuck on his face, and then he wailed, "Granny, you’re bullying me too."
Julian’s antics made everyone burst into laughter, what a lively character he was.
The atmosphere at the dinner table was really good; everyone was chatting and laughing, even Charles Seymour, who usually wore a stern face, was relaxed.
After they finished eating, Sophie Wilson and the others didn’t disturb the two elders. After chatting for a while, they took their leave.
There was still almost a month to go before the premiere, so Sophie Wilson wasn’t in a hurry. She figured the director hadn’t confirmed anything, and Julian must have gotten some inside scoop.
"What’s up?" Charles Seymour turned, puzzled, at Sophie Wilson, who had been grinning since they got in the car.
"Just happy." Sophie Wilson beamed at him, "Your grandparents are adorable."
Charles Seymour nodded. She liked his grandparents, and this finally eased the concern he secretly carried.
He didn’t care about his father, but he cherished his grandparents and his uncle’s family dearly.
He cared about Sophie Wilson, and he cared about his family. The fact that both sides got along well made him truly happy.
"With them around, you at least had someone to talk to when you were a kid." Sophie Wilson tilted her head, smiling sweetly at Charles Seymour with an innocent look, entirely unaware that her words had hit Charles Seymour’s heart like a piece of candy, melting instantly, filling him with a heady happiness.
