Mason Wilson didn’t answer immediately, the awkward silence in the room was suffocating.
Clarissa Taylor looked at Mason, not missing any change in his expression, and said deliberately, "No matter who it is, no one is allowed to harm my daughter!"
Clarissa knew that there are many gray areas in the world. Being as old as she was, she naturally understood that not everything needed to be taken seriously. However, some things absolutely cannot have gray areas; they are either black or white!
"I’ll first investigate, to see what really happened back then," Mason spoke up, "If it was really Emerie... treating me , I see no reason to consider her my sister anymore."
The moment Mason finished speaking, Clarissa was genuinely taken aback.
Immediately after, she was flustered, a bit at a loss, and the words she managed to string together didn’t make much sense: "The heart, but... Mom and Dad..."
Seeing Clarissa in such a state, Mason chuckled, the not-so-obvious wrinkles at the corners of his eyes became increasingly prominent with his smile, making him look warm all over.
He gently took hold of Clarissa, who seemed like a bewildered child, and whispered, "Don’t worry about Emerie’s heart condition, it has significantly improved over the years."
It was precisely because Emerie had been frail since childhood, with a heart condition, that even their parents had always spoiled her, but who would have thought she’d turn out this way from all the pampering.
"But..." Clarissa was still worried and wanted to say something, but Mason interrupted her, "I know you’re worried about Mom and Dad. Indeed, if Emerie really did this, perhaps they might side with her."
After all, their parents had always protected Emerie like she was a fragile crystal, but...

"I’ll first clear up the situation from back then," Mason made a decision and felt less conflicted than when facing Charles Seymour, "It’s better to have evidence when speaking to them."
He couldn’t just talk nonsense or confront them with mere speculation, could he?
Suddenly, the phone rang, Mason glanced at the caller ID, his expression not looking very pleasant, and as soon as he picked up, complaints bombarded him: "Brother, what kind of father are you? Have you seen what they are saying about Ophelia online? How could you and sister-in-law let your child be bullied ?"
Mason’s eyes darkened, and he replied in a deep voice, "No one will bully my child. I’m busy here, hanging up now."
