Charles Seymour tightened his grip on his chopsticks. Met before? Very familiar?
Kai Bright’s survival instincts immediately sensed a budding crisis, though his unease didn’t show on his face. Instead, he laughed and pointed at his own eyes, saying, "Sophie, maybe it’s because both of us have almond-shaped eyes."
Sophie looked closely and couldn’t help but laugh too, "Yeah, I was wondering why you seemed so familiar!"
"Exactly. This must be fate. It clearly shows we’re destined to be a family, you’re meant to be my sister-in-law!" For his own safety, Kai wasted no time expressing himself clearly.
Otherwise, if someone misunderstood something, he’d be the one who ends up in trouble!
Seeing Kai so tactful, Charles felt satisfied, "Drink more soup, it’ll do you good."
Sophie glanced at Charles and said with a smile, "Kai, you really are good brothers with him. He wouldn’t care about unrelated people."
"Yes, yes, true, true." Kai nodded repeatedly, without speaking his mind.
So he’d be healthy enough for Charles to beat him up?
If Charles hadn’t just refrained from beating him, would he need to drink this soup?
However, despite his internal grumbling, Kai and Sophie were having a great chat.
Though Kai looked like a playboy, he was knowledgeable. He could even chat with Sophie animatedly about the interior design industry.
After they finished eating, Charles stood up and asked Kai, "You came to see me for something, right? Let’s talk in the study."
He didn’t have any business; he just came to watch the fun.
Almost blurting this out, Kai stopped himself in time and nodded repeatedly, "Yes, yes, the study, the study."
"You guys carry on." With a smile, Sophie said and then went straight to her room.
Kai chuckled, "Sophie really has a great temper... hey, hey..."
"I mean, can you give me some respect?" Kai was dragged into the study by Charles, helplessly straightening his wrinkled collar, which totally affected his image.
"Why did you come to me?" Charles sneered, giving face to someone who came to watch a show?
Kai’s body stiffened, then he grinned cheekily and said, "I was just curious about what kind of person could win you over. Now that I see..."
Kai deliberately stretched his voice, then "happily" received a cold, knife-like glare from Charles.
"Definitely not an ordinary person, you’re a perfect match!" Kai quickly clarified his position, saving his own skin.
"A match, huh?" Charles’ smile was filled with bitterness, "This is just a transaction between us."
"A transaction?" Kai stared at Charles in disbelief.
"I asked her to help with my drug trials, and she asked me to fulfill her need for romance, pretending to be her boyfriend." As Charles spoke, Kai’s mouth dropped open in surprise.
"Sometimes I get so confused, I absurdly think she’s actually my girlfriend. I can only numb myself in this illusion, dragging it on day by day."
"This beautiful dream will eventually end, I’m just deceiving myself." Charles sighed bitterly.
