After a long pause, Tang Li finally spoke, “Teacher Gao, I actually don’t have any uncles.”
Gao Shengyan was stunned, and after a while, he asked: “That night in my office, I clearly heard you calling that man uncle, what’s going on?”
“It’s true that I called him uncle, but it was just a polite form of address.”
Tang Li withheld the part that Lai Wenyan was her biological father and told the truth: “After my mother passed away, I came to the Capital based on the address she left and went to the Lai Family. They had you call me that day because they wanted to take me back and then have me adopted by their cousins.”
Without needing more explanation from Tang Li, Gao Shengyan guessed, “They came to the school today to grab you because you disagreed with the adoption?”
“Sort of,” Tang Li continued, “A few days ago I moved my household registration out of the Lai Family. They are now looking for me, likely wanting me to cancel the application and properly complete the adoption procedures so they can take me abroad.”
This was the first time Gao Shengyan had encountered such a situation.
Though all kinds of things appear in the news, she had never experienced a forceful adoption scandal so close to home, especially since Tang Li was already an adult. The Lai Family People should respect her decision instead of acting like bandits and attempting to kidnap her directly.
If Tang Li happened to be at school today, wouldn’t they have taken her away?
