In the village, not many people have wells, and many folks fetch water from other houses because drilling a well is too expensive. Surprisingly, Li Laosan has a well, which was beyond their expectation. He ran into the house, a large room and a small room, both rooms had fire pits, and the kitchen was quite big. However, there were only stove tops, no pots, the village chief lent them old ones. Old ones don’t matter, as long as there isn’t a hole in them.
As for the bedding, the old ones could still be used, just move the stuff from the small room over.
Qin Xiangyang was riding the village chief’s tricycle, placing his sister on top, then went to the small room to move stuff.
They cleaned out almost everything from the small room, the old cabinets, contents of the cabinets, their few clothes, and the old bedding like sheets, all were taken away, back to Chen Laosan’s old house. Qin Xiangyang first carried Xiang Nuan down, and then he felt a tightening on his hands, as another pair of hands had already placed Xiang Nuan on the ground.
"Aunt Hua," Xiang Nuan lifted her small face and saw Aunt Hua had arrived unbeknownst to her, the after-sunset glow fell on her shoulders, dusty yet somewhat kind.
"How did you get so hurt?" Aunt Hua dared not touch Xiang Nuan, seeing injuries all over her.
"It doesn’t hurt, Aunt Hua," Xiang Nuan’s small face, raised, looked particularly pitiful, swollen and blue, with a broken corner of her mouth, one swollen eye that couldn’t open, and messy little braids on her head, all the more heartbreaking.
Aunt Hua felt distressed inside, she had heard about the Qin Family’s situation and knew that the village chief had arranged for the siblings to be here.
"Good, it’s good here, as long as we are away from those people from the Qin Family, no matter how tough life is, it can’t be worse than before."
She hurriedly rolled up her sleeves, took a basin from the cart, and went to fetch water from the well, "Xiang Yang, you watch Nuannuan first, Aunt will clean up the house, don’t worry about anything else, your uncle and I will definitely not ignore you."
Saying so, she started to clean with some water she drew. Soon, Uncle Hua came over, helping to move the cabinets inside and also to light the fire pits, placing the bedding above them which made it rather warm.
The windows’ glass, either blown by the wind or something else, was already broken. Aunt Hua took out some old newspapers to paste over the windows to keep the drafts out.
In the evening, the village chief brought over two old pots. The pots were indeed old, but Xiang Nuan tested them and found them still usable, one large iron pot and one big flat pot. They still lacked an old honeycomb coal stove, but they were not in a hurry. Once moving was done, Xiang Nuan planned to buy a stove and pots so that making pancakes with two pots would be faster.
Aunt Hua invited Qin Xiangyang and his sister to her place for dinner and applied medicine to the children. However, when the clothes were taken off, Aunt Hua was so enraged that she felt like chopping someone with a kitchen knife. How cruel it was to beat children , how could someone even raise their hand like that, are they even human? Both children were covered in wounds, especially the younger Xiang Nuan, not a single spot on her body was spared, it was simply too horrific to bear, she was treated not like a daughter but an enemy.
