Shen Mianmian was oblivious to the actions of Zhou Siyu and Wang Jingjing. She still remembered her agreement with He Nan and, not wanting to keep him waiting too long, bid Lu Siyuan goodbye and hurried towards the noodle shop.
But as soon as she turned the corner, she heard someone call out from behind her.
Without even looking back, she knew who it was; they had a history, and when he called her name, it was never for anything good.
Shen Mianmian didn’t turn her head, she just ran faster, but her little short legs, wrapped in an oversized army coat, were no match for Du Xiaohui’s long strides.
She hadn’t run far when Du Xiaohui grabbed her, "Why are you running? Didn’t you hear me calling you?"
He had waited until Lu Siyuan was gone to speak to her, but as soon as he did, she ran off like she’d seen a ghost.
The thought made him fume.
"You’re up to no good when you’re looking for me, so why would I stick around?" Shen Mianmian rolled her eyes and tried to wriggle her arm free, but she couldn’t shake off his grip.
Du Xiaohui couldn’t help but laugh sarcastically, asking indifferently, "Oh? Scared now, are we? You were quite brave in the restroom and the office that day, weren’t you?"
Before Shen Mianmian could reply, he continued, "Protecting Lu Siyuan like a mother hen with her chick—what a coward he is, needing a little radish to guard him."
Being held by a boy hardly bigger than she was and called a little radish was too much for Shen Mianmian’s internal ’old lady’ to bear.
"Who are you calling a little radish?" she glared at Du Xiaohui and realized he didn’t seem to be looking for trouble, "What do you want? If you have something to say, spit it out. I’ve got other urgent matters to attend to."
He Nan was waiting for her.
"What urgent matter do you have?" Hearing she was in a hurry, Du Xiaohui seemed less eager to discuss his own concerns.
"None of your damn business." In Shen Mianmian’s view, Du Xiaohui was just a bratty kid, even more so than Lu Siyuan.
If it weren’t for the fact that he hadn’t sunk to Sun He’s level of depravity last time, and wasn’t all that bad at his core, she would be even less inclined to talk to him now.
Shen Mianmian’s remarks infuriated Du Xiaohui, and he made a tongue-in-cheek gesture he had learned from a movie. He believed it made him look bad and cocky, perfectly portraying the image he wanted to project.
"You must have the bravery of a bear and a leopard, don’t you?"
Which girl in the school would dare speak to him like that?
"Haven’t you heard the saying ’women are tigers’?" Shen Mianmian glared at him.
"You call yourself a woman?" Du Xiaohui looked at her with disdain, his contempt plain to see as he snidely added, "Calling you a little radish is an insult to radishes."
What a little brat with a venomous tongue!
Shen Mianmian was provoked to laughter, "Are you going to let go or not? If you don’t, I’m going to tell the teacher you’re harassing me on my way." If it wasn’t for He Nan waiting for her, she’d have to teach him a lesson today.
The threat hit a nerve for Du Xiaohui, as making a scene with a teacher could mean the end of his schooling.
"Tell which teacher?" he glared at her fiercely, "I just wanted to let you know, I’ve got my eye on you."
After saying that, he let go of Shen Mianmian’s arm and walked away, thinking he had done so with great panache.
Was that kid out of his mind?
Going through all that trouble just to drop a tough line?
