He Nan responded indifferently, watching her leave the room.
With a flashlight in hand and knowing that Brother He was just next door, Shen Mianmian felt particularly secure. She took her change of clothes and went to the bathhouse. After her bath, she came out and saw He Nan sitting on the sofa.
There was another bag on the table, just like the one that had contained mung bean cakes before.
"Brother He, did you buy mung bean cakes again?"
"I just brought it along."
What did he mean by ’brought it along’? Wasn’t it obviously purchased for her to eat?
This stuff wasn’t cheap, and Brother He was currently in the midst of starting a business; he surely needed every penny. She couldn’t let him keep spending money on her .
If only she hadn’t mentioned she liked it last time.
"Brother He, actually, I ate too much of this last time. I think it’s good to eat a bit of these snacks, but too much can get tiresome. Don’t bring them for me next time. But it was true; she had been a bit long-winded just now, like an old granny.
She obediently shut her mouth and followed He Nan to his house. The guest room there was indeed cooler than the other place. She stood by the window and let the breeze cool her for a while before climbing into bed to sleep.
Day broke after a good night’s sleep. When she woke up, He Nan had already bought breakfast and even cleaned the place up. Shen Mianmian felt a bit embarrassed; she had promised to get up early to clean today, but she had slept like a pig, oblivious to any noise outside.
"I’ll take you to school after we eat." He Nan poured soy milk into a cup and placed buns and deep-fried dough sticks on a plate before sitting down to eat.
"No need, Brother He." Shen Mianmian shook her head in refusal, "It’s not far from here to the school, just a fifteen-minute walk."
Brother He had just returned yesterday, and there surely were many things he needed to attend to at the company. She didn’t want to take up more of his time.
Besides, if other classmates saw her arriving at school by car, they might either mistake her for the child of a wealthy family trying to schmooze or suspect that her conduct outside of school was questionable.
Either way, it was sure to cause her some trouble. She was still a student and wanted to keep a low profile.
As if he saw through her thoughts, He Nan didn’t insist.
After breakfast, he dropped her off at the intersection, and Shen Mianmian got out of the car to walk to school.
Lu Siyuan had arrived before her and was already waiting at the school gate. Seeing her approach unhurriedly, he strode over to her, "What are you doing? You’re walking like an old granny. I’ve been waiting here for ages."
