Ruan Yiqian dialed the phone, and after a little while, the call was picked up. The voice on the other side said "hello," paused for a moment, and then called out, "Yiqian."
Ruan Yiqian said faintly.
"Is something the matter?" Since Father Ruan was usually away all year round and the two of them had similar temperaments, they didn’t idle away time in small talk unless there was something to discuss, so Ruan Feng’s first thought was that something must have happened at home.
"Nothing’s wrong, I just felt like it’s been a while since I called you, so I wanted to have a chat," Ruan Yiqian said.
"How’s everything at home?" Ruan Feng paused before asking, "Is Mom feeling well?"
"Everything at home is fine, and my mom is in good health. You don’t need to worry about us, just take good care of yourself," Ruan Yiqian said.
The line went quiet; neither of them spoke. Every phone call between them was , with a few casual questions about home affairs and then running out of topics to talk about—this time was no exception.
After a moment of silence, Ruan Feng asked again, "Any news about Mianmian?"
After countless disappointments over the years, Ruan Feng had handed the task of searching to Ruan Yiqian and hardly ever inquired about it. In fact, Ruan Yiqian knew that Ruan Feng didn’t lack concern; he was just constantly living with guilt, afraid to face the matter.

Even though he had faced many setbacks, the news about Mianmian still thrilled Ruan Feng, and his hand holding the phone uncontrollably trembled.
"Did you find Mianmian?"
"We’ve found about eighty percent," Ruan Yiqian said.
"..." Ruan Feng frowned, "What does that mean?"
"We’ve found the person, but we can’t confirm it’s her yet. The DNA test results will come out next week, but I think it’s Mianmian," Ruan Yiqian said.
Ruan Feng’s lips quivered, "Has she been well all these years?"
After so many years, Mianmian was finally coming back.
"She had it tough before," Ruan Yiqian told the truth bluntly, "But then she met Xiaonan, and these last few years, Xiaonan has been taking care of her. She’s doing very well now, got into Beijing University, and was even the top scorer in the province on the college entrance exams. It’s also fate! We only recently found out that she’s Mianmian, but she has some misunderstandings about me and Mom, and now she doesn’t much feel like dealing with us."
Once again, Ruan Feng furrowed his brow, "Have you been bullying her?"
He knew all about Ruan Lingyu’s temper; it definitely wasn’t great.
Ruan Feng meditated for a moment, then said, "I’ll arrange something and head back in a few days."
"Try to make it as soon as possible, I can set up a chance encounter for you," Ruan Yiqian said.
