If they didn’t belong to the normal world but were from within space itself and had accidentally fallen into the Minister of Rites’ father’s grave, and just happened to be encountered by the grave-diggers, that would explain everything.

The two quickened their pace, but even when they reached the end of the cells, they found no trace of space.
Instead, one of the cells further inside showed signs of recent activity, which most likely meant it had held Lady Lin.
But the room was now empty, so it seemed the old man hadn’t lied to them, and Lady Lin truly had been released.
