They arrived at the Yu Family residence.
Bai Xiao noticed it was a few old-style buildings.
There was a particular heaviness characteristic of Modu’s laneway houses, with their deep historical roots.
Yu Shaoyan opened the car door; before Bai Xiao could step out, a young girl bounced out from behind them.
"Dad, is this my new little sister?"
Staring with big eyes and fluttering dense eyelashes, she curiously sized up Bai Xiao.
Bai Xiao couldn’t help but sigh, every member of the Yu Family had good looks.
Their attractiveness was beyond question, all with arched eyebrows and large eyes, but most importantly, each possessed an innate presence.
"Hello, I’m Bai Xiao, twenty years old this year."
The girl immediately took a liking to Bai Xiao and enthusiastically pulled her along, "I’m Yu Feixue, twenty-one years old. I attend Jiaotong University. I’m older than you, so you can call me sister! I’m so happy; I finally get to be someone’s older sister. You have no idea, in the Yu Family I’m the youngest, always bullied by them. Don’t worry, in Modu I’ve got your back. Being your sister isn’t just for show. Anything fun to eat, drink, or play with, as long as you name it, I can get my hands on it."
Yu Shaoyan looked helplessly at his younger daughter, this child.
"Don’t lead Bai Xiao astray, otherwise, I will have to have words with you," said Yu Shaoyan, though he felt a bit powerless regarding the child.
Holding onto Bai Xiao’s hand firmly, Yu Feixue continued, "Come on, let’s go upstairs. Grandpa and Grandma have been up since early this morning, practically looking out the window for you. You don’t know how many times they’ve cleaned the house and bought so many delicious things they wouldn’t even let me eat. Talk about unreasonable!" Chattering away, she pulled Bai Xiao up the stairs.
They bumped into an old lady coming downstairs, "Yu Family’s big girl, who is this?"
Seeing how affectionate Yu Feixue was, the neighbors couldn’t help but inquire.
"Auntie Shao, this is my younger sister Bai Xiao, my aunt’s child. Please remember her face, otherwise you might mistake her for a thief and drag her to the police station again," joked Yu Feixue.
Auntie Shao couldn’t stop smiling, "Oh my, she’s a real looker. This girl resembles you guys quite a bit, no way I could mix that up. Do you think your auntie has blurry old eyes?"
As they chatted, they reached the third floor. The red wooden front door was already wide open. As the sounds of their approach drew near, the Yu grandparents became anxiously expectant, peering out. Upon seeing Bai Xiao, Grandma Yu’s eyes instantly reddened.
As if she was watching her daughter walk step by step into the family home.
They hadn’t expected Bai Xiao would truly agree to visit. They could only hope their younger son would be able to entice her, but who knew that Yu Shaoyan would indeed manage to smoothly bring his granddaughter home.
As soon as Yu Feixue saw the two elders, she began to tease, "Grandpa, Grandma, at your age, you’re still crying? We are reunited now. We should be happy, laughing out loud; otherwise, how could we do right by my second aunt?"
Grandma Yu grabbed Bai Xiao’s hand. "You child, I had arranged for your second uncle to pick you up from the train station. Who knew you would leave by yourself and had us worrying ourselves to death."
Feeling the warmth from Grandma Yu, Bai Xiao felt somewhat guilty for being so pragmatic.
